There may already be a thread like this, but I couldn't find one.

So what's an app (whether it's a web 2.0 one, an official Apple widget, or whatever) that you hope to see developed for the iPhone?

For me, as a New Yorker, I would love to see something like Google Maps but done specifically for NYC's subway/bus routes (something better than the official MTA maps which are never quite detailed enough), showing the best way to get from one destination to another after some input from the user -- with live updates of service changes/advisories.

Ok, I know it's simple... but it's the first thing I came up with. I'm sure I'll think of dozens more.

So what's YOUR dream iPhone app?

encryptable data storage

I need an organizer for personal data. Bank accounts, frequent flier numbers, passwords, etc, all in a nice, organizable, secure place.

be able to stream video off iTunes like your appletv....so when your in your bedroom at night and you just want to quickly watch 'the office' you just grab your iPhone, select your iMac thats in the study and start watching some classic, awkward comedy.....

For me, pretty much being able to use my ipod as a phone! ... (and a navigation unit, and a pda, and a calculator, and a ...) :D

A mini apple remote desktop, or a salling clicker type control over your mac/s.

Salling Clicker would be great. I've missed it since I got my crippled RAZR. I never had a real need for it, but boy was it cool doing presentations controlling Keynote slides from my phone

it would be cool to have a file vault to hide all the pictures I take of girls when im out from my GF . LOL it would be cool to have a nice screen saver application that.
a mini photo booth app too.

In order of priority

1. Blackberry-style corporate push email app
2. Slingplayer (though the slingbox would need an H.264 encoder chip inside)
3. SSH

I got one. I've been thinking about this one since it was announced.

I would like an app that makes the iphone work as a remote control for your airtunes over your home network. So it the iphone would use the same GUI as it does for music on the iphone itself but acts like the remote that sonos uses for it's system (www.sonos.com). So you can chill on the couch while the iphone access the playlist from your computer or iphone and choose the songs via the iphone to play in any and all of the rooms in your network with airtunes or apple tv hookups.

that and skype, that works just like a phone an automatically kicks in on international calls with out doing to much if anything extra.

Here's mine a good wifi radar, this phone is going to need wifi to take advantage of most of its data features... so how about a wifi detector. Sorry apple, love ya, but most of your wifi detection schemes suck.

Exactly! I have been an eWallet user for years. I don't have a PDA anymore but I still use the desktop app for storing web ID/PWs, account numbers, etc.

We have so many accounts, web accounts, software license keys, VINs, SSNs of the kids...just way too much to keep in my head.

I was shocked when I found out that my latest and greatest Verizon cell phone could do 3D games and video but there were no basic local database applications.

I still think this is could be a killer app for the iPhone. This should have been one of the included apps.

My dream app would be a really slick way to take, organize, and study notes. That's something I've started development. It will probably take a long time though.

This and other such posts partially inspired me to write iPhone Cream, where people can post and vote on iPhone app ideas and actual iPhone apps as well.

This is off-topic, but you can always use http://www.hopstop.com/?city=newyork :)

And my dream app for the iPhone would be Adium.
