Something like Autoroute for Mac?

I'm replacing my Windows laptop with a PowerBook, and the only thing I haven't found a replacement for yet is Autoroute.
This is essential for my laptop, as I often go off driving, and take my laptop just incase I get lost (which happens a lot :o)

I've heard of Route 66, but the reviews on Amazon are a bit discouraging.

What does everyone on here use? :)

i have an old windows desktop i use to load up my GPS with maps of where i will be :-/ some stuff works through virtual PC but that runs kinda slow. Aside from Route 66 i dont think there is much software designed for mac anc mapping. there are some little freeware programs that you can upload maps if you have a scanned copy of them but i dont think they have the routing capabilities of the other programs. id go for a stand alone GPS so you dont have to worry about your laptop while youre driving. Garmin makes good GPS recievers and they can be used with a mac through virtual PC (to upload new maps and such)

i bought route 66 back in march, it is nothing to call home about. so when i want to do stuff with my gps i just fire up vpc and use the software that came with my garmin

It something that you should think about for the future. I have it in my car (2004 lexus Es330) its as life saver

I bought a copy of Route 66 yesterday, and it seems alright.
But - is it possible to print the directions it gives? File > Print only prints the map, and I can't see a way to change what it prints. :confused:

I use my ibook with bluetooth phone & use streetmap.co.uk or mapquest.com. Recently I have started screen grabbing maps from streetmap & saving them as jpgs to view on my phone (nokea 6600). This saves the hassle of caring a laptop or A to Z

I'm an advocate of Street Atlus USA on the PC side, and this is the only program for which I have not found a suitable replacement for OS X. Right now I use it in VPC which is ok, but you obviously can't use a lot of the higher-tech features (voice navigation where it tells you where to turn, and voice control so you can tell it what to do). I've "tried" Route 66 and it's just awful in comparison- much slower and much fewer features.

Your best bet would be VPC or a cheap old PC laptop (450 mhz range would still work fine). Not the ideal solution but that's all we have for now...

Well I found the print options (nicely hidden :rolleyes: ), but it just beachballed when I tried to print (left it for 10 mins, before having to force-quit it).

I took it back - useless. I'll just use do my routes before hand, and connect through GPRS when I need a map.
