Deleting photos in iPhoto

Upgraded to Tiger, imported my photo folder from my backed up Panther hard drive, and @!%$ me if all the photos I (thought) I had deleted were right there back in my new iPhoto 6 library.

Can anyone enlighten me about making delete mean delete (prefereably from within iPhoto as I can't stand the thought of trying to track them down in the finder as there seems to be no logic to how they are filed).

Until you empty iPhoto's trash they are not really deleted.

I'm pretty sure I had emptied iPhoto trash, but I'll double check. Thought I'd seen something somewhere that you had to ctrl-del, shift-del or similar.

Just pressing delete is a far simpler way of doing things
