Is this a Real Audio type file? If so, is there any way I can get around not using Real Player, as I hate it dearly.

The file is an NPR files, and I assume it is a streaming file, so if there is some sort of program to access Real Audio without using their player, it must be capable of streaming to content, too.

Thanks in advance for your help!

SMIL is a multimedia format providing unique content-control, synchronization, and meta-information facilities. A SMIL file can encapsulate audio, video, and animation files and provide great control over their presentation.

SMIL is XML with an SMIL DTD.

Quicktime used to support SMIL, but they have not updated it to the latest version. Sadly this leaves only Real with a viewer that support SMIL.

There is an open software working on this, supported by Real.

See www.smilguide.com for a start.
