I decided to open Disk Utility and run Verify Disk on my main drive just for fun to see if there were any problems. It ran for a while then came up with this message:

---
First Aid Failed
Disk Utility stopped verifying "Hard Drive" because the following error was encountered:
The underlying task reported failure on exit
---

This is after a fresh restart of my Powerbook too.

By the way, if I look at the actual text as it's working, it looks like the red line before it dies is:
"Volume Bit Map needs minor repair".

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Start up with your original discs and then you can repair the drive. Just happened to me on my powerbook, too. Do you have a 12"?

Actually, unless your disks contain 10.4.2 or later then I recommend using fsck (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214). Having said that, there's a chance these are merely benign errors (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107250). :)

Ok, thanks. It looks like, from that link, the errors I'm getting are indeed benign.

I'd run fsck anyway, just in case. It can't hurt and it only takes a couple of minutes.
