simple audio freeware?

Is there any simple freeware program out there for recording audio?
Also, is there any way to take the audio from a video camera source and save it as a separate wav file?

i'm not sure that i'm not doing something wrong, but i think that program might only work with griffin microphones? i just want to record with my ibook's internal mic...

Yes, its a Sony Digital 8 Handycam... The Cacaphony program has an option for recording from the camcorder as a source, but something about it is screwy because when I record say, ten seconds of audio, it ends up being 3 or 4 seconds of audio that's very choppy.

I don't have any experience with digtal videocams but you could try importing the DV file in QuickTime Pro and exporting the audio portion as .aiff or whatever.

No it doesn't, and there's a 9 version as well.

Spark LE is 19.99 euros or something like that. Spark ME is free, although you'll have to fill in a form before you can d/l it.

iTunes will do it.

Open the file in iTunes and then choose "Advanced -> Convert Selection to MP3"

audacity is nice for simple editing, but it's based on the wxWindows framework and is really slow and can be cumbersome. on the other hand, it does support vst plug-ins (although there are almost none available that are carbonized, so you will probably have to use it in os9 to get the most out of the program). cacouphony is a nice application (a lot like soundeffects 0.9.2 for classic) but $25 is not a realistic price tag for the software ($15 maybe).
