Am I the only one that thinks that this is a huge update! I was able to search for random keywords and those Word files that had those keywords in them popped right up. Amazing!!

I was able to do that long before 10.4.6

This isn't new behavior for Mac OS X 10.4.6, if that's what you mean.

Mac OS X could do spotlight searches within Word documents even before yesterday's update.

But yes it is handy.

Must be an error. I haven't installed update and spotlight has always searched my Word docs. Microsoft's recent Office upgrade made Entourage emails searchable which was much appreciated.

The technical notes for 10.4.6 mention Word integration with Spotlight. I guess it's just better in some way now. Not sure how though. :)

Spotlight always seemed to search all my files fine. So useful. :)

If you read the detailed page about the update, you'll see that it now can index documents created in older versions of Word.

Ahh, okay, thanks for that. It's always worked for Word X. I guess earlier versions didn't work though. It's interesting this is an Apple-side update and not a Microsoft one considering it was Microsoft who updated Entourage.

I wondered what they meant by that. It didn't seem to have any trouble with Word 2000, .X, 2003, or 2004. I guess, when they say "older" versions, they must mean *really* old....
