Divix player

Can anyone recomend a good Divix player for OS X, I want to add one but I want some recomendations. Please post a link to the site:) ;) :rolleyes: :cool: :confused:

basically, there are 2 plug ins avail for Quicktime for Mac OS X. Both do a decent job...
but you need to convert AVI's to MOV's for them to play audio correctly

Nothing to convert here, just click on your AVIs and watch them play as if they were mpgs!! X or 9 versions are available.

still lacking ac3 support as well as vobsub (subtitles) support, missing out some great releases in the divx scene. even if the svcd support isn't either incredible good, only one or two players around, your mac still should be able to play all svcd releases, at least if you got a fast one ;)

I just downloaded the package, and when I went to run it it said "There is no application availible to run "Dvix component"" Any advice?

AVI's with VBR MP3's (which are probably most of them on the web) will not play straight.

You need the avi2mov tool.

that would be because you haven't read the ReadMe file yet ;)

Sometimes they really can be useful.... You need to copy the component to a folder. Which folder depends on the os you're using. Anyway, just read the instructions that came with the download.

the only problem with the codec from divx.com is that the frame rate on my g3 500 ibook is bad... also, after watching it for a bit, the sound gets really off-sync... any solution? (the post-processing level is at the lowest level, too)

what about encoding DIVX??? I haven't seen much about this.. tell me please I don't have to rely on a PC to encode my DVD movies onto CD sized DIVX! I know the mac can do it so much smoother/faster.. where is the program???

encoding divx has been developed for windows, the real tools, nandub/vdub, dvd2avi and so forth do not exist for mac, therefore encoding divx on mac is kind of... pointless. encoding svcd however works, or "is" possibly, but you have to use virtualpc. :(

It may be that your computer can't handle the datastream. Although 500mhz is enough power to decode many of the divx files out there, the 66mhz system bus of the old iBook has been confirmed as a real bottleneck (as compared to mac desktops w/100mhz buses). Pushing all that data around the system is hard on the machine w/o clever optimizations (present in some professional codecs but not DivX). That's why I held out for the 100mhz version iBook, and it works almost perfectly even for 640x480 files.

How do I decode divx files to ... say uncompressed DV or anything that I can load into Final Cut or Avid?

is it just me or did the latest divx.com alpha release (or maybe it was quicktime 6) completely screw up divx playback in quicktime? i used to use the divx.com decoder and the divosx.jamby.net codec and both worked perfectly after you changed the file type of divx movies from "VfW" to "DIVX", but it seems that this no longer works. quicktime with the divx.com codec will play divx movies (with the "VfW" filetype, "DIVX" does not work at all) but the sound is blippy. vlc (www.videolan.org) plays them all perfectly, but i really liked being able to preview my divx movies in the finder. any suggestions?

Just go to versiontracker.com, click on the OS X tab, and search for DIVX, you'll find about 2-3 different codecs for QT5 or 6, 2 DIVX encoders (macdivxcreator, and FFMPEG), and VLC which will playback DIVX files (Including ripped DVD .vob and/or Mpeg2 files) without ANY pre-processing by avi2mov.

Just do a little searching and you'll find them!

PS Divx encoding is much faster in Jag...

i got sick of stuffing around with DivX stuff, so i just got VLC. it's good, so you should get it too.

Works like a dream for me. I've had better luck with it than any of the Quicktime plugins.
