defaulting a program

How is it possible to change the default opening program of a program (e.g. a divx movie to be opened with vlc instead of Quicktime).

Right/control click (or just click and hit apple-i) and go to the Get Info selection.
Go to 'Open with' and select the app you want the file to open with and make sure you save the settings if you want all those types of files to open with the app you chose.http://img.ranchoweb.com/images/veronica/smiley.gif
