Just want to post this here to get more involvement and support from the Mac community for this wonderful program. Here's the link for the webpage...

forty-two v1.5 is the definitive tool for MacOS X for converting a DVD into either an avi DivX movie, a folder of ready to burn bin/cues for VCDs and SVCDs or a ready to burn .iso DVD disk image. It is designed to be simple to use, easy to learn and give good, in sync results. Please read the easy to follow guide to start converting your DVDs right away.
forty-two v1.5 requires MacOS X 10.2.3 or later, with the BSD Layer installed, 15GB of free space for converting a DVD and a Macintosh compatible DVD drive.
Burning VCDs and SVCDs required a CD Recordable/ReWritable drive. DVD burning requires a MacOS X supported DVD-R/DVR+R drive.
Generous contributions from Users Like You insure the ongoing development and improvement of forty-two.

OH yeah..
the best thing about this program is that the output video is IN-SYNC with the audio!!! no more hoping.. put in DVD, tell it VCD, SVCD, Divx, or DVD-R and hit start....
it creates a 1 minute test clip (audio will appear out of sync with mplayer app that plays it) to view the video, then starts encoding the whole movie... PAL or NTSC format is auto-detected... When it is done, you have an image file that you can burn with Toast or whatever burning program and play on your set-top DVD/VCD player... wonderful!!!
NOTE: remember, this program is dependent on people who get use out of it to contribute to further development.. if there's a feature you'd like.. reque$t it if you know what I mean...
(I am in know way affiliated with the development of this program and get nothing for promoting it other than enjoyment of other Mac users getting a good transcoding program that works...)

Just downloading now.
Anyone know how this handles copy protection for backups? I hate taking my originals in little plastic sleeves on trains/planes.

It does all the copy protection handling for you... the reason for this program is to be able to use your originals at home and take backups with you for the road... I keep my originals in my 300disc changer and hate having to take them out when I want to bring a movie to work or to a friend's house.. i can now keep backups in the (now empty) DVD cases and keep the originals in thechanger...

Every DVD I've tried gets rejected as it can't find AC3 audio. Oh well...
