Need a very simple HTML editor

Guys, I need your help. I just made the switch from my PC to a Mac and am in the process of finding software to replace all my old PC stuff.

I ran across a very bizarre situation. I have to create snippets of html for a web page (it's basically template driven, I just need little pieces of html). I created these in Netscape 7 on my PC. When I try to open them using Netscape Compose on the Mac, it says the file is not found. What's really weird, is I can open the file in Internet Explorer on the Mac, Safari on the Mac and Chimera. The only browser that won't open them is Netscape.

So, I need a very simple (hopefully free) html editor to create just some basic functionality. Any suggestions?

bbedit is great! i prefer it over golive or dreamweaver.

i like to code the old fashined way i guess.

I found TACO HTML EDITOR. Very simple with
a nice "save" button.

i agree with orion, taco is the best freeware pure-html editor i've found. it has syntax coloring, syntax check, find and replace, quick object insertion, and is written in cocoa. the netscape problem sounds rather odd. i know that composer can't handle frames, you have to open the files seperately and edit the main file by hand, but if you created them in netscape, that should not be a problem. you could try mozilla, or you could attempt to open the html files in a text editor and copy/paste them into netscape composer.

This is really strange. As I reported, the Netscape browser on the Mac nor Composer would open the html files that I created on my PC. But, Safari, IE and Chimera would. For some reason, I tried moving the files from the folder I had transferred over to my PC into another folder. I put them on my desktop and suddenly Netscape could open them. I then stuck them into a new folder and they still worked. Still not sure what happened here. But, I can use Composer on them now.

I will however try BBEdit. I've heard really good things about it. Never heard of Taco, but I may look that up, too.
