Okay, here's my plea to the Mac community. I'm trying to help a friend update an older Macintosh to allow them to run a piece of software which requires Mac OS 9 (or higher). After searching high and low, I managed to find a copy of Mac OS X 10.1, which includes an OS 9 CD. However, I was rather disappointed to find that the CD is an OS 9.2 CD, and it won't install on the computer in question.

I called Apple, and all they could suggest is that I look farther for an older copy of an OS 9 CD.

The local Apple reseller told me that they could only burn me a copy of the system that originally shipped with the computer (i.e. System 7.6), and that really doesn't help.

I know that there is a patch that allows Old World Macs to run OS 9.2, but it requires access to an OS 9.1 system folder to copy key elements over.

I'm at a loss, and I need some help. Is there anyone out there that could offer some good suggestions?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

http://www.wegenermedia.com used to have OS 9.1 disks for sale, but I can not see one there right now. You might send an email to them to see if they happen to still have some.

No luck yet.

Wegener Media didn't have any OS 9.1 (or earlier) disks left, nor did the person that they referred me to.

The computer store told me that they were unable to help me, also. Their best suggestion was to ask around to my friends to see if one of them still has an OS 9 CD.
