The part of my menu-bar that shows the volume control, the battery and the wireless reception just crashed.. just get that rotating colored ball when I move the mouse cursor over it, so I can't change the volume anymore. Restarting the finder doesn't help. Any ideas (other than rebooting? I'll do that later today, anyway, but I wonder what I can do if that happens again)?

hhmmm, i had a very similar problem from hacking front row once, i downloaded the osx 10.4.7 combo update from apple and then used pacifict to extract the bezel files ...:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BezelServices.framework/

and

/System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/

and install them, they control them menu items.
im not saying this is what you need to do, but if you get desperate. . .
