I need a free or very cheap program to record input from an iMic to aiff files, and then be able to edit the files. It only needs to do simple editing, splitting tracks, and hopefully some cleaning of static.

I want to record old albums into CDs. Currently I am using Sound Studio, and like it very much, but it expires soon, and I don't want to plunk down 50 bucks.

Thanks
-Benjamin

I haven't used it much, but it looks promising...

Spark ME!!! get this, you won't be sorry. it's hard to beat, especially for free. TC Works makes top-notch pro audio software.

sorry i can't give you a direct link because they have a stupid flash site or something. follow the links: Products>Spark XL>and at the top of the page you'll see a link for ME, the free version.

Thanks a lot. i downloaded both, but Spark ME looks more promising. I haven't had a chance to try it out though.
