View Full Version : Installing kernel extensions?

I'd like to install the SpeedIt kernel extension, which doesn't come with an installer. When it comes to unix, I'm an idiot, I know nothing. So how do I go about installing it? The "read me" included simply included 4 commands:

chmod -R 755 speedit.kext
chown -R root:wheel speedit.kext
kextload speedit.kext
sync;sync;sync

I did this from the Terminal start up and of course, it said I couldn't as I'm not root. So, I logged in as root, but now I can't seem to get to the right directory. I try using the first command and it tells me it can't find that directory. Help?

Don't bother. It doesn't work.

Use Hardware Monitor to watch the CPU temp and the core speed.

Hardware Monitor is a sham. Or, a nicer way of saying it is I'm not willing to pay money for what it offers. I got the kernel extension installed myself, after a little messing around. It only gives one temp, which is pretty lame but oh well. I'll wait for iStat Pro to include it's own sensors.
