Hey...if a CD has OS 10.0.1 does that mean its not really OS X?

If its not really OSX, and I have the CD for a iMac w/ 10.1.4 will that work on the iBook?

10.0.1 is definitely OS X, as for the imac OS X installation CD working on the ibook, it should work in theory assuming its a normal installation disk, but it probably wont have any of the power management utilities you would want in a mobile version of the OS

power management is not your worry. they'll be in there...

"system restore" probably won't work properly, but just installing OS X will not be problem. but wouldn't you rather have Jaguar? all that furry goodness!

oh cool. So i can install 10.0.1 and then i can update it to 10.2.5?

Not for free.

You may be able to find a free updater from 10.0.x to 10.1, but I'm not certain.

You'll have to pay for a copy of 10.2 in order to use 10.2.x.

yea thats what i thought.
hey can i install it from a disc i have from my powermac that is 10.2.1? Will that work in my iBook? or will it know its from a powermac package?

I was always told that the install discs from specific machines were always built just for that model. I've never tried otherwise, but that would seem to make sense, right?

The install disk selection may be for a specific machine. In other words the additional software package. The actual 10.2 install disks should be exactly the same no matter the machine.

cool, well that's something new that I learned today. I always thought that the install disc was different for laptops and desktops, just because of the battery monitors and what not.

No every OSX install disk includes every feature of the OS that is needed for any supported computer. The installer decides which components to install based on the computer it identifies.
