View Full Version : New iPod Shipping from Apple Store?

Anyone out there have their new iPod from the Apple Store listed as "shipped" yet?
I noticed that they took the "Buy it now and get it by Friday afternoon" statement off of the graphics.
It seems that they'd need to ship it today to get it to customers by Friday via 2-day shipping, but my order isn't showing as shipped yet. Anyone else?
I know, it's so geeky to be waiting like a kid for my shipping status to change, but - you know - Apple is the closest thing to a real Santa Claus that I know of.

I called the Apple store today and found out that indeed all orders received today, until some specified time were all being shipped tonight via FedEX so that people would receive them on Friday May 2nd. (Only if you opted for the 2 day shipping)
My order is listed as being taken on 11:14 AM PST. Only minutes after the store came back online. (Yeah, I was just a little antsy to get one of the bad-boys) My order status still says 'Open', but I am confident that by tomorrow morning it will say shipped!

Thanks for the post.
I checked and noticed that my shipping is 2 day (no charge).
I was expecting next week, but Friday would be awsome!

I'll be a little annoyed if they upgrade everyone for no charge, as they were more than happy to charge me $8 for the privilege of 2-day shipping.

Same here: I ordered mine on Monday, payed the extra 8 bucks for Fed Ex, and my status is still open. Hopefully, it will come by Friday. My shipping status says priority overnight- what does yours say?

My order says a shipping method of '2 Day'. The only two options I saw were free, for 5-7 days shipping and $8 for 2 day shipping. I doubt that anyone who opted for free shipping will get their iPod on Friday.

I think they upgraded anyone who payed the 8 $ to priority overnight and anyone who opted for 2-5 days to 2 day priority to ensure everyone gets it on Friday.

Well, the settings for shipping on my account say Standard 2 to 5 days and FedEx 2 day. I have standard choosen, so 2 business days after shipping could still be correct. No reference to FedEx on my order. Hopefully they did upgrade to make us happy.

I think Apple is reading this post! My shipping that I paid $8 for has been switched from 2 day shipping to priority overnight in just the last hour! If I get mine tomorrow I promise to post pictures! Woo Hoo!

My order says priority overnight now. I did not pay for any faster shipping method.

My guess then is that they will remove the 8 $ charge for those that paid it. Your status still says open, right?

Awesome, Apple.

hhmmm... I paid the extra 8 bucks too, placed my order at 11:25 am directly after the keynote, and I'm not seeing priority overnight... yet...
I don't really care just as long as I have it by Friday.
Anyone here going for the 30 gig?
I also bought the Belkin Tunecast. Anyone have this little guy?

Just checked my order status again. Looks like they've upgrade me to overnite! I wonder if this means we might get our ipods before friday?

I bought the 30G, minutes after the Store went back on-line. I didn't opt for the quicker shipping methods, and when I logged in to check on my order status later Monday afternoon it showed a "ship by" date of 01/01/2004... which prompted a quick WTF call by me to Apple. The Apple rep said it was a computer clitch (which was later fixed) so my ship date has since read 05/02/2003. The Apple rep also told me they're all going out for everyone so everyone has they by Friday. Today, I was listed as 2-day, as of a few minutes ago I was upgraded to priority overnight. I will be elated to get this new toy by Friday morning. I'm even delaying my trip out of town for a few hours so I'll have time to get home, sync w/ iTunes and then hit the road. Getting all the orders in everyones hands by Friday afternoon would coincide with the stories posted that the Apple Stores aren't allowed to sell the iPod until 6pm on Friday. I for one am thankful to have ordered it and that I won't be in a line at the Apple store trying to get my hands on one. So excited.
p.s. I too am interested to hear anyone's thoughts on the Belkin Tunecast FM transmitter. I looked into the iTrip transmitter and their website reports that the current version of their product works with the old iPod, and they will be updating their site later this week with information on a new version of the iTrip that will work with the new iPod.
Any thoughts/input on the Belkin Tunecast or iTrip?
Any current iPod owners with any input on other iPod accessories good or bad?

This will be my first iPod also. It's been one heck of a wait. I'm taking a vacation day of Friday so I'll be around when my 30 gig iPod arrives.
I ordered the Tunecast (which I received today). I'll be sure to let everyone if it's any good or not after a few days of use. I'd also like the get my hands on an additional dock for my stereo, a Belkin car charger and their external battery pack - all on which will not be available for a few weeks. I can see the external battery pack being very handy on trans-con flights.
puriuchi - you should try Audible.com. I've been a member for 4 months now. It's an excellent service and great value. A very important iPod "accessory."

Just checked. I'm still "open", but upgraded to priority overnight as well.
Maybe they're doing pri overnight for anyone who opted for the extra shipping and std overnight for anyone who didn't?
It'd be sweet to get one by 10am. If so, I could go down to the apple store and taunt people who are lined up who can't get one until 6pm :)

Order April 28; REg. shipping; "Open"; Priority; ship by 5/5.
Perhaps they're upgrading the shipping for everyone, but shipping the overnight orders first.
It begs the question, though, why weren't these all in boxes ready to go, with only a label to add? I could understand a delay for a multi-part order or engraving, but they had to know there would be a sizable number of orders on day 1.
Mine shipped this morning via UPS.

:( Mine hasn't shipped, even though it too was ordered Mon. Guess the $8 was worth it for express delivery. As I guessed, they're shipping those first.
Edit: :D Mine has now shipped, although no tracking infor :D :D :D

Apple will give you a credit if you paid the $8 shipping. I was unable to claim mine immediately tonight becuase my order is between 'Open' and 'Shipped'. The orders are apparently shipping via FedEX overnight and are due tomorrow afternoon.
If you paid $8 for shipping call Apple after you get the package and get your credit!
When you call them what do you have to say besides I want my 8 bucks back?

My 15 gig finally changed to 'shipped' sometime in the past hour. I'll be leaving work early tomorrow to race home and check it out.

I guess the only one to have a grudge with is the person coding the shipping method shown on the order status form, so it appears my iPod 2 will show up on Monday, and the 2-day/overnight business was not correct. I didn't pay the $8 and don't get the service, fair enough.

I'm loading my music right now onto my new 30 Gig iPod! This thing is a work of art. The only thing that disappoints me so far is that there is only one cable that connects from Firewire to the iPod. I'll have to spring another $19 to be able to use the AC adapter at work while I leave the dock always connected at home.
I hope you all have similar luck. Now time to call and get my $8 back!

Glad to hear people are getting their iPods - not so glad to hear I haven't gotten mine yet!:(
I ordered early Monday afternoon, opted for the expedited shipping. Like most people I didn't hear anything until Thursday, when I got a note saying the iPod had been shipped. I had the same thing with the empty FedEx tracking number (there was one, but it didn't have any info) - but that changed early this morning when I checked my order status and it said my package had been shipped...via FedEx Ground!? With an expected arrival of Monday May 5th?!?!?!
I was not too happy - so I called up Apple and they told me that, yes, I had been charged the $8 fee, and that, not to worry, my shipment had been upgraded to overnight, free of cost, and it would be here by the end of the day. Well I know its only 5:30, and FedEx DOES ship into the evening, but the last check point on the FedEx tracking page says "Scanned at Sort Facility in Hartford CT 3:07". And I'm in New Hampshire!
This isn't looking good - was I lied to by my beloved Apple? Will I not see my new 30GB iPod when I thought I would? Did I pay $8 for a service that wasn't provided to me!?
I am a sad, sad, iPodless man right now.
:(

Please let us know how this goes. I'd like my $8 as much as the next guy, but it seems a bit of a weak argument to say that becuase they upgraded some people to overnight (which wasn't guaranteed), but you opted for overnight which WAS guaranteed for only $8 more, you're entitled to your money back.
It'd be a bit like asking for the price of my appitizer to be removed from my bill becuase the chef sent a free one to the people across the restuarant.
Of course, $8 is $8, so if it works, I'll ask.

Yes, I called and was able to get my $8 back. At first the support person thought I was crazy, then I told him that many others have gotten a credit if they paid for 2-day service.
After being put on hold for 5 minutes he returned from a chat with his supervisor. He apoligized and told me that the credit would be applied to my card. At the end of the call he thanked me for the info and said that he would now be able to credit future customers without having to bring a supervisor into the inquiry.

After having paid the $8 fee, and after having not recieved my iPod yesterday, I called and got my money back (the $8, not the $499), and a short apology. The rep on the phone said he would "put priority on this" in order to "encourage FedEx to make a saturday delivery". I figured this was BS (I didn't bother saying anything) - would there be a way for Apple to change the status of an order after it had already gone out? Has anyone ever had any luck with FedEx shipping on a Saturday? My poor, lonely iPod left Hartford CT (about 1.5 hrs from me) at 11:30 last night, so maybe there is a chance will we be together by the end of the day. Let us all hope :( .

would anyone that's gotten the new iPod be able to check really quickly if it is supported in OS 9? (I know the box says it isn't but I am still curious if iTunes will pick it up)
