I know there is some kind of option that you can have your screen go dim before screen saver.
I must have it enabled b/c it does it, and it is super annoying.
Any idea where I can change the setting?
I thought there was a slider bar or something where you could adjust how long to wait before it comes on...

Pretty sure it's supposed to be in System Prefrences -> Energy Saver. Oddly enough, I don't seem to have it on my Mac Pro.

yah I wonder what is going on...
Is this an option apple took out with an update?
I have my screen saver set to 15 mins and my screen dims after three minutes...
This bugs the heck out of me!
There is the checkbox in power... but:
1. it is not checked.
2. I think that is something different.

Edit: I know there used to be a slider where you could adjust how long the computer had to be idle before the screen dimmed.

Intel-based Macs: Built-in display dims before sleep (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304092)
I guess it goes for iMacs, too...

Products affected
Intel-based Mac with built-in display (MacBook, MacBook Pro)
I have an iMac
Also I recall there being a slider where I could adjust ow long before the screen dims.
I remember me setting the dimmer after the screen saver and it would say are you sure you want to do this....
What the heck is going on.. I need to give Apple a call.

All you have to do is click on the "Sleep" tab in System Preferences/Energy Saver.
Here's a screenshot:

That's all or nothing. No option to adjust the dimming time.

Apple's scheme:
Buy leopard when it comes out to fix the dim problem

No, there didn't. But there *was* a checkbox "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep" like that Apple article mentions.
I wonder why the option doesn't exist anymore.

No, I can't see any option for screen dimming in the above screenshots. I'm not talking about display sleep, I'm talking about dimming before sleep. :) There was never a slider for that, but there was a checkbox.

Well, look at the other screen shot...
And to make it very clear, the option is called: Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep

So, THAT's what they were talking about. :D
I actually hadn't noticed that option before. Cool.

I know, I already mentioned that. :) Sorry, I missed it in wakerider017's screenshot. That's where I know it should be. When I posted my first reply to the thread, I noticed that my Mac Pro doesn't have that option. I don't care, I wouldn't use it anyway, but it's odd.

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but I just bought a MBP and my display dims after a certain amount of inactivity. As soon as I move the mouse or press a key, the display returns to normal brightness. This is not the display going to sleep where it's completely off. I have unchecked the options to dim the display just before the display goes to sleep. But I can't find any other setting in the OS to control this. This is my first Mac, so I may be missing something.
Nevermind! I missed the link above that describes the problem identified by Apple. I'll let this thread go back to sleep.
