...it is a great idea though. it's amazing how easy it is to use.

wow, this is a great idea (if you steal music that is). now that it is known on macrumors im sure it will only be a matter of time. guess we will have to wait and see.

at first I thought it was a site that had hacked the iTMS but relized its just letting you downloading from people instead of the way it was meant to be, steaming. Even tho this cant be a good thing Im definitly still going to be buying all music like I allways have. This is no different then any other p2p thing so why not just use limwire or another program like that because searching on this thing is SLOW! But as I said I dont use p2p programs to download music because I like to give money to the artists that I listen to every day because I love music so much.

It's really slow. I just tested it out, not too good. i'll stick with the iTMS for me.

It's no different from any other p2p software (except that you can download without sharing -- or can you do that with limewire?). Plus you still can't share files from apple's music store without the account name and password.

Well, it's clever stuff...but it's bad for Apple. If I was one of the 5 big record companies that had agreed to this, I'd be pretty pissed by now, in such a short time there are already a couple of ways to download what were supposed to only be streams.

BTW, you can even download the MP3's found on your PC! (handy 4 me @ work ;))

that definitely can't be good for Apple's reputation - having iTunes involved with music sharing like that.

althought it isn't too different to other music sharing apps/services it's not good that iTunes is part of it... :(

Because it's their software that is providing the security loop hole for these people to make these app/webpages. If there were no iTunes, this particular method of P2P would not be an issue :rolleyes:

It seems like they found out a way to hack the sharing feature of iTunes. However, the songs purchased from the music store are not avaliable as is. I highly doubt they have cracked the DRM or whatever it is that the AAC encoded songs from iTMS have. That doesn't prevent people from re-encoding purchased songs. It seems like another P2P service that is encouraging the theft of music. I think they will be shutdown really fast. Most P2P apps allow sharing, and are not soley focused on music sharing. Nor do they promote it like this site is doing. It is another napster rip off, and probably won't last long.

for one thing it's a site in germany, not *as* easy for the RIAA to touch.

this doesn't have anything to do with DRM, it's about impressions, images and relationships. this puts a bad taste in the mouth of certain large music distributors and that is the point.

i think if anyone is going to shut this little hole it is going to be apple, trying to make good with record bigwigs. it is on a small scale and represents no particular financial threat, but the prospect of a few million windows users with this is bad....

I have a feeling you'll have little choice in the matter, for example, 10.2.7 will not allow iTunes 4 to run, you'd have to have the all new (fixed) iTunes 4.1 :rolleyes:

If you want to be a legal user, you'll download the update that prevents illegality.

I personally don't want anyone downloading stuff from me - it sucks up my precious bandwidth. I'll share stuff through a more secure iTunes - and with a password protecting it.

However, I'm sure if this problem is as severe as everyone makes it out to be, Apple will make it so that if you ever want to update your computer again, you'll have to give up p2p. I know I'd rather have Panther than p2p.

every enterprise that tries to use the internet as a means of distribution/commerce is going to have to deal with people like this. there will always been someone smart enough to crack your security. just like brick buildings have security systems and guards, ITMS will need quick revisions and bug fixers.

I'm beginning to think this is the reason why Apple have waited so long before "sharing" (over RendezVous, intentionally :) ) was enabled in iTunes. Ths first demo of this feature was done by Steve @ MWNY last summer.
Maybe they were afraid this leak (hole, whatever) would be exploited too easily, too soon. Now it has. Apps, and now even search sites are available.

iTunes 4.01. doesn't do anything but take away open sharing. you are now limited to your own subnet. there is no reason to update. but of course, apple users are update-happy these days... :rolleyes:

Yes I did which is why I haven't updated. However, I get 'Couldnt connect to iTunes server!(4)' every time now which is why I asked 'did everyone update their iTunes or something?'
