Transfering tape info to ipod

I have a bunch of taped lectures, about 50 odd tapes, and would like to transfer it to mp3, then to my ipod.

But i'm not sure what is the best way to do it, or if it is even possible.:confused:


Any suggestions.:p


Right now trying to firgure out, if i can attach a tape deck directly to my computer, not seeing an obvious inline yet.

What kind of computer do you have?

If your model doesn't have an audio-in you can use the MacAlly iVoice (http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/detail.asp?dpno=845174). It is a microphone but also has an in/out connection on it. Simply plug your tape deck into it with the volume turned all the way down (this is to protect the computer). You can then use a program like Audio Recorder (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17392). If it has a input level meter use it to adjust the volume level of the tape player to a reasonable level before recording.

Thanks for your reply. I have an windows machine (hangs head in shame).

But i found the line in on my computer. I'll try to find a windows version of the program you mentioned.

If it i can put all these lectures on my ipod, it will truely rule.:D

I might switch to apple, when the new ibm chips come about.

Hey a computer is a computer though some of us would like to think that we have the better operating system.

I just listed that audio recording program as an example I found at VersionTracker.com. Here's a search I just did for Audio Recorders for Windows.

Just remember most voice recording can be put into mono 32kb/s MP3s without a noticeable loss.
