what's this file?

my G4 recently crashed. it was one of those dimmed screen types with the message telling me to restart by pushing and holding the start key, etc., and of course it never restarts and i have to do a hard restart.

afterwards a file called "mds-crash-state" appeared on my hard drive. Nothing seems to open it. what is it and can I safely trash it?

According to info found over at Apple, that is a file that is generated if Spotlight crashes. It should be safe to trash (even if you may have to provide your admin password to be allowed to do so).

thanks for the help. i appreciate it. it does require an admin password which is wht i was reluctant to trash it.
