I have the ATI Radeon X1600 256mb card on my MacBook Pro.

I'm currently using the Boot Camp ATI drivers but when I try to update them with the new 7.1 Catalyst drivers, I get an error saying my card is not supported and then another error saying I have to make sure I have standard VGA drivers installed. What does all this mean? Can we not update the drivers on Boot Camp?

It says in the specs for Catalyst that it supports my card.

Try the Omega drivers. They are universal for all ATI cards, more customizable and (some say) they yield better bench results.

I use them myself (MBP), and my framerate in EVE has improved MASSIVELY. I don't have any numbers since I don't know how to read out the FPS in EVE - but it has gone from barely playable in 1024x768 fullscreen to easily playable in 1440x900 fullscreen. So.. more FPS in an even higher resolution.

Go for it.

I can vouch for Omega being AWESOME. Much better than stock ATI any day. The only issues I've found have been with multi display support.

You'll have to use the mobility mod tool. You obviously haven't noticed that you don't have an ATI Radeon X1600 in your mac. You have a mobility Radeon X1600.

I tried the Omega drivers and it darn near crashed my system! It said it was the wrong driver and defaulted to the uber old VGA driver! I had to reinstall the BootCamp drivers to get full functionality back. Any Ideas?
