As a new mac user, I was wondering if anyone knows of a VCD player for OS X? Or one that will be out in the future? Thanks.

I've been asking the same question about a year now... When os x came out, and i wanted to look at my movies, i needed to reboot in classic, i thought apple would fix this problem but still, we can't watch VCD's.

I asked the person who made a vcd player for os9 why there are still no vcd players. He told me, it's impossible to watch a vcd in osx : osx doesn't reconize the disk. I hope this will be fixed in 10.2

Apple certainly has a knack for leaving out little things like that. Maybe theres a way to copy your VCD to the HD in 9, and then access it in X, I know I'd be a pain in the butt, but if your HD is big enough (heck you could reburn the files on to a data CD) and you watch them often enough, it might be worthwhile.

I love OS X, but this is the one thing about it that drives me crazy. I sure hope Apple fixes this soon. Apparently, the problem is that OS X cannot recognize "Mode 2" CDs (which all VCDs are and most other discs are not). It is not simply a matter of someone creating a VCD player that runs in X, as the OS cannot (currently) support the disc format itself.

Yes, until Apple fixes this (I wonder if this has something to do with UNIX) and Logic Audio comes out with a native OS X app, I'm still forced to boot into OS 9, unfortunately.

However, I did find this link: http://www.mireth.com/index.html

They promise a software solution for VCD in OS X "soon". I have no idea what this is, though. (Plus I think it is ridiculous to have to pay for software for the privilege of viewing VCDs in any OS.)

This update to MacVCD will not play the one VCD that I have. Not sure where the issue lies.
