Free Leopard upgrade if Mac bought within x amount of Weeks/Months?

I thought this was the case with previous releases of Mac OS X and thought the buffer time was 3 months within the release of an upgrade that a free upgrade was optioned.

Please confirm the idea and/or timeframe?
