I cant get past the startup screen on my ibook g4

i just reinstalled os x and was doing a software update and i shut off my computer in middle of the update, now when i turn on my computer it goes to the white screen with the grey apple but the gear thing that turns never comes up so im stuck at that screen, i tried waiting but after 20 mins it still didnt start anyone have any idea??:confused:

FYI, please give us at LEAST 3 hours before bumping your thread.

You've probably hosed your filesystem with that hard shutdown. Sudden shutdowns have the potential to really screw things up, depending on which files are being written at that instant.

If you have a copy of diskwarrior you could try to boot from the CD and repair the drive.
BUT, since you just re-installed OSX anyway ... boot off your system disk and re-install again.
