Yeah, but you have to remember that apple has to pay mpeg la for us to use mp4 ripping for free. It's free to us, but I would think that apple has to pay for it out of itunes music sales.

Well, it doesn't cost much to run (alone). Think, say 300,000 5MB songs, thats 1.5 Terrabytes.
10 xServes, and one xServe RAID. That'll do it (just about). Then hook up a T3+ line, and you're set.
But it must suck to rip all those songs. Its all easy from here though, they are making bank!

Apple would need a Gigabit connection judging by the number of people buying from the store. Then of course they would need two backup systems in case the main goes down.

pretty cool
but sales seem to go down every week. Apple isn t presenting any new charts anymore. we actually hear nothing ..
