What are some of your favorite free/cheap shareware programs, and what are they?

(In no particular order)

1) Transmit - ftp
2) Mac Stumbler - presence/singal/strength of wireless networks
3) ClearDock - removes translucent background from the Dock
4) Camino - browser
5) VLC - media player

no order.

of the ones that are already in the system my favorite is terminal. (the itunes and iphoto too)

others:

- BBedit

- Safari and Links

- Notes

- Photoshop

- Toy Viewer and Image Indexer. Both are really small softweares, fast and do exactly what they promise. Especially Image Indexer saves a lot of work. :)

1. Weatherpop/Meteorologist (latter has been a bit buggy...)
2. MacJanitor
3. KeepSoundAwake (10.2.6 may have fixed this, but maybe not...)
4. Fugu - sftp/scp app

These are the four apps I use practically every day. I also use CodeTek Multiple Desktop - though recent avalanche of updates got me a little weary that these guys are not checking their apps too carefully as a part of their development process... A bit too much fire-fighting to me...

not "exactly" freeware/shareware but Safari, QT Pro and iChat AV are fine apps from Apple.

iTunes
www.apple.com/itunes
MPlayerOSX
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mplayerosx
Mozilla
www.mozilla.org
OpenOffice
www.openoffice.org

I don't think Giaguara got the idea of this thread since he put photoshop. It is also good to see a lot of people using VLC.

1. Clutter (http://www.sprote.com/clutter/) (freeware, gets album art directly from amazon to display, and controls iTunes, nicer interface than mini-itunes window, possibly the most perfect freeware app ever?!)
2. Audio Hijack (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/) (freeware, record any audio from any selected app, genius)
3. Focus (http://members.home.nl/vissering/Freeware.html#Focus) (freeware graphical UI feature that adds to the glossiness of os X I think)
4. Proteus (http://www.indigofield.com) (donationware, IM client, great for chats one-to-one and my favourite but I still miss some features of using MSN Plus for windows)
5. Sound Studio (http://www.felttip.com/products/soundstudio) (shareware, but now bundled with new macs, great app for editing audio)

Funny how my choice of apps reflect my fave mac interests, i.e. audio, gui & IM

VLC
Fetch
Download Wizard

Those 3 are the free apps I use a lot, I could make the list a lot longer if I include stuff I don't use so much, but still couldn't survive without.
