will i be sad with final cut express?

I have been using Final Cut Pro for about a year now but have not done anything serious as of yet. My only access to the application is through the college that I teach at, so I am looking at getting my own copy. Although I feel that Final Cut Pro is worth the value, it is still too much for me, even with my educators discount. So the big question is, would I be happy with Final Cut Express?

My goal is to try and obtain DVD Studio Pro and either Express or FInal Cut Pro at the same time. If any one out there has used both Pro and Express, I would greatly appreciate some feedback regarding usage, do they feel the same, did you notice the differences?

they are both nice, but final cut comes with some really high end features that most people will never use. if it was final cut pro 3 we were comparing i would say get express. but in the new final cut pro 4 they have added so many extra progroms like livetype and that. so right now i would buy final cut pro 4 if i were you.

If you're stuck in that place where iMovie is too simple and Final Cut Pro is too complex and costly, FCE will be right for you. It's the relatively full featured little brother of FCP and everyoen I know who used it loves it.

ive messed around with both and found FCE to be just great.
are you making a real movie for world wide release?
if so i would suggest FCP. if not just save the cash and get FCE.

I am not doing anything for the big screen, if I am fortunate, I might see it played on a HD tv but otherwise, everything that I do is mini DV and for either tv or for the web.

I think the best bet would be for me to go to the apple store and try out express for myself, I think I will be heading into Boston on thursday to do just that.

honestly, if you can afford the extra money get final cut express. its a stripped down version of final cut pro 3. final cut pro 4 is much better with the new OfflineRT and LiveType. LiveType is awesome by itself. you can make some really awesome titles.

I use FCE a lot, mostly for VHS to DVD stuff, i've edited a few wedding video's, did my old high schools class video this year, and have to start doing a saftey video (i get to use a GL2! YAY!) for a local factory soon. I love FCE. I will admit i havent really used FCP, but i have yet to even use everything FCE gives me.I think you'd be more than happy with FCE.

a friend of mine has fce and i wanted to try it out first, before i get my own copy.

is it possible, that fce cannot recognise "all" miniDV cameras?

according to the Apple site, fce supports only a number of cameras.

can anyone confirm this?

you might be asking, how i think that fce does not recognize my camera. i get this "timecode" error...

If it's not on the list it's not supported which means it may or may not work.
