Questions from a potential switcher

Can Jaguar have sound events like Windows machines?
Ex. Particular sound when minimizing windows, opening programs, etc.?

Also, is there a built in wallpaper changer?
If so, can wallpapers be changed every 15 mins?

Yep. Although this feature was in OS 9 and then taken away when OS X came out, there is a wonderful haxie from the Unsanity guys called Xounds (http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/xounds/) which brings back it back. $10 shareware.

This is built in. There is a System Preference panel called 'Desktop' which you use to set the Desktop Background, and there is the option to change it automatically from every 5 seconds to every minute to every hour and in fact, every 15 minutes, all from a folder going in order or all in random.

why do you even want system sounds? they are the most annoying thing on the face of the planet....

If you want a sweet dynamic desktop, there's a hack available out there that plays your assigned screensaver as your desktop image.

This means that you can have that aquarium or some spinning ball or whatever going on as your desktop all the time.

Since you mention that you're a potential switcher, I assume you have yet to buy -- evidently, this works best (no surprize) on faster machines. If you get a marginal machine, it can slow down everything that you're running. (And having lots of stuff open at once is one of the most enjoyable parts of OS X stability and pre-emptive multitasking.)

I don't recall it offhand, but someone could add it. It's also mentioned in some OS X tricks and shortcuts books.

I believe you are talking about Backlight or a program similar to it, I have tried a few, and this is the best.

Actually, what I saw was some code that you put in from the unix command line. I thought that the idea was that you start up in "single user" mode (cmd-s @ start-up?) and then type in the instructions to basically write the screensaver to the desktop and run the screensaver. I don't think it was stand-alone.

If I get out of the salt mine here before 8:00, I'll try to find out tonight.

Yeah Backlight runs the command and gives you the choice which screen saver to run. It can be different than your default one set in the Sys prefs, and this it can set processor priority easily using GUI.
