Now I realise this is probably me being thick. However, something that has always bugged me since I started using a mac is that when I delete a file from a usb pen drive or from a compact flash card the files disappear but are not actually deleted. The drive still displays the same amount of free space even though files have supposedly been moved to trash.

Am I being stupid? Can someone explain this to me?

Thanks

Empty the Trash.

You mean with the device connected? And then this deletes it properly of the usb stick?

Yes.

The Trash is really a collection of the different trash folders on all connected volumes, and - apart from network drives - when you delete a file off a volume it goes to that volumes trash, so if you eject a volume without emptying the Trash, the trashed files remains in the volume's individual trash folder. :)

Was that even remotely clear? :o

Yes it was :) Thank you very much. I guess part of me is still in windows mode:mad: But it does make sence the way it works.

Thanks Again.:D
