Wii Store is ripping me off!

My girlfriend just bought 2000 Wii Points online with the Wii. I think Nintendo is ripping me off (my credit card so..)

They charge me 20$ USD for 2000 points. Then they charge me 13% tax on that (which is what I pay here in BC, Canada). So total is 22.60 USD.

What the hell?! Why are they charging me my provinces tax in USD?! thats BS! Our dollar is pretty good right now but Visa is still gonna gouge me on the exchange rate as it is so adding another 13% is a damn joke... :mad:

So you are saying that should have converted the $20 USD to canadian before they added the 13% tax?

I think it works out to be the same. Let's suppose the exchange rate is $1 USD = $x CAN, then

If they add tax first then convert you end up paying (in canadian $) 20*1.13*x

If the convert then add tax, you pay (in canadian $) 20*x*1.13

Both ways come out to be the same

Buy Wii Points cards when you can use coupons and get steep discounts and sometimes tax off!!!

That's what I have done. I accumulated about $100 worth of points for maybe $50. Same for my Microsoft Points.

I lucked out, they don't charge me sales tax here in California, where as if I buy a Wii card I have to pay tax on it. :o

Virgin Megastores and other high street shops sell the 2000 points card for £20. Not $20.
Online Wii shop sells 3000 for £21.
eBay has 2000 cards for £13, or Woolworths sometimes do "buy one get one free" which is just awesome.

I'm wondering if you can buy US cards on eBay and use them on the EU system. 'cuz that would be oh-so cheap.

Microsoft doesn't charge taxes for buying points or Live subscriptions online (at least I've never been charged taxes for either).

Don't know if that's a Nintendo thing or a "you live in Canada" thing though. :o

It's a regional thing zero2dash. I don't get charged sales tax when buying via the Wii Shop. But if the EVIL government has its way, all online sales will be taxed.

You're better off moving to Delaware, Oregon, or one of the other few tax-free states. They simply don't have sales tax.

... Everything you buy online (In the US) is taxable.

If a store has a physical location in your state, they are supposed to charge you that tax even at an online store of theirs (Take Apple store for example).
However, all those places that don't charge you tax? You're supposed to report that yearly on your taxes... The 'other taxable income' section.
