They pulled a Sony in saying there wasn't one coming :P

I was hoping the Core would final be gone but oh well. They should have cut it by $50 to make it the same price as the Wii.

Nice for those who are wanting to buy one though and a good way to keep the heat on Sorny. Still, why would they do this with Halo 3 just around the corner? Halo is gonna sell units no matter what the price so get those sales then drop it a month later before the holiday season starts. Oh well, I guess I'm not a marketer :D

Agreed. I was convinced that we would only see the price drops only a few weeks after Halo's release.

Premium's still the one to get IMO. :D
Best bang for the buck...

$50 off? That doesn't sound much if you convert it to Sterling. £280 just becomes £255.

I say - kill the Core. Now. Drop the Premium to Core price. Elite at £300. Watch them fly off the shelves.

I doubt they'll ever kill the Core, it lets them taught a low price point... even if people don't buy it.

It's the idea that they "could" if they wanted to.

Of course, now there isn't even a $100 difference between Core and Premium :P

Small price cut but do remember they are trying to keep on the toes of Sony so this visually looks much cheaper to consumers....good show MS.

The premium is still the one to get.

If that happened, I would have a super hard time not buying one.

Not bad, although only saving $30 on the elite seems kinda bad.
Even at $279.99, the core will still barely sell any units, Premiums the way to go!

Remember though, he was saying prices in pound sterling, which is about 2 US dollars for every one pound.

May or may not be feasible; Microsoft's losing so money on the warranty problems that they might not be able to cut the profit margins any more than $50.

I'd agree with your statement, but if Microsoft can't manage that, then alternatively, drop the Core price to $250 to compete with the Wii.

Now we're talking ^_^

We still pay a little more for it than the US but now it's not as bad.

Well, MS finally got their crap in gear and lowered the Canadian price to levels more akin with the (falling) USD.

The Elite is still too much as a PS3 is just $50 more, but the core is now only $10 more than a Wii  good on MS for trying to put up a fight before they are consumed by the Wii :p

edit: and MS just added HDMI ports to the premium SKU

*rage building* I want HDMI you jerks!

I'm probably not psychic, but I've been saying for a while that HDMI is going to be standard once the hype of the Elite model wears down. Didn't MS say that months ago?

man all those SKUs are confusing

Core
Premium (called simply 360 here)
Premium with hdmi
Elite with hdmi
Halo 360

so much for consoles "being not so confusing like PCs where you have to compare spec sheets"

at his point i wouldn't be surprised if in the next generation you will be able to upgrade graphics cards

They dropped the NZ prices a couple of days ago too.

Core now $449 instead of $549.
Complete now $649 instead of $719.
Elite still $799.

This has got me now considering a core to keep at my house and my existing with me at grad school. I can just disconnect the HD and take it with me without having to worry about disconnecting everything.

Yes, they will all eventually get the HDMI, and made with the cooler running chips.
