help with g3 mac and os x PLEASE

I have a purple and white g3 mac with mac os 9.1 installed and i want to install mac os x 10.4. I have a disc that came with my new mac that i bought this year. i tried installing it though and when i restarted to install it a really long error message came up and at the bottom it said " Panic: we are hanging here... " Do i need to upgrade my RAM? I really want to get this mac working so any help is appreciated.

The discs you tried using were licensed for and designed for the Mac they came with. They won't work with the old G3 Mac. You'll need to buy a retail version of OSX. :)

Don't forget to update the firmware in OS 9 before you do!
