Anyone know if that issue with XBox 360‘s and the new AirPort Extremes has been fixed yet?

Edit: If it hasn't, and I have to select the a/b/g option from AirPort Utility, am I likely to see better range even on g equipment?

I have a 360 with the 360 wireless adapter, I recently just bought the Apple Airport Extreme w/ Gigabit and I'm not having any problems. We don't have any "N" devices on our network, everything is either b or g. What were some of the problems people were reporting? I didn't even think about any compatibility problems when I went to buy the new router.

I've had my 802.11n Apple router for a while, and I've had not a single issue with it. Works perfectly with the 360.

I have an AEBS (in 2.4GHz mode -n w/ -g compatibility)... works fine with my XBOX360 wireless. The only issue I've had is with the encryption, if I have the AEBS set to WPA2 ONLY, the XBOX cant do it, but there is a WPA/WPA2 mode that works with the XBOX.

What issue is everyone referring to?

For a while the 360 couldn't connect to the Airport Extreme (the N version, obviously), but that's been a long while.

Ah. I just remember reading about it back in the day. Just recently I got a 360 Elite and an 802.11n AirPort, and Googling didn't find anything about the problem being fixed. If it's sorted though, all well and good. :)

Yeah I had the problem for a long while. I had to keep an express hooked up to act as an access point in order to get the 360 to see it.

Maybe a secret update sorted this out. If so I can sell my express :D

so is the problem fixed or is it not? also, to those that have a functioning connection with this setup, are you able to successfully get NAT to open on Xbox Live? thanks.

I haven't had a problem in nearly three months of using mine. And I have an open NAT.

are you using the MS network adapter, or some other third party?

I use the Microsoft adapter. Went from a Linksys router to the Apple router, all I had to do was find the network and put in the password, and it all worked from there.

My wireless adapter still wont see my airport extreme at all. Irrespective of what settings.

Weird. I wonder if I could find someone else with an AP Extreme and see if I could connect my Xbox to their network…

Meaning you tested out different security options, forwarded the right ports (88 and 3074 if I remember correctly), static IP on Xbox, etc? Actually, the second half of what I just wrote is irrelevant if the Xbox can't even see the Extreme.... Hmm... Have you applied the firmware update to the Extreme?

Have you set your channel to something below 11 ? When I received my Airport Extreme (n) it was set to channel 13 that most Windows (and I guess XBOX) hardware can't actually see, by setting the channel to 11 or lower, things work.

Trust me... :)

I've tried every permitation of securtity and ports.

I've tried every broadcast channel

I have the latest firmware in my extreme

My 360 has the lastest dashboard

Irrespective of what I do - there is no communication between my airport extreme and 360.

I have to use my airport express bs as an access point otherwise I'd be buggered completely.

That's a bummer. I'm sorry to hear it's not working for you. At least you have the express to make it work...

I wonder why it works for some and not others...

Maybe the age of it ? My adapter is one of the first from back in Dec 2005. Maybe there was some hardware difference implemented somewhere along the line.

Kind of a bummer though, because i wanted to sell my express when I got the extreme but have been unable to do so. Oh well.

No, I think he's saying that he has an old 360 adapter.

MacRumorUser, are you at least streaming music to your express? :o B/c that'll at least make it worth it, right?

Is your adapter one of the launch ones too? I'm just trying to see if there's a correlation.

Nah the express is merely used as an access point for the 360 and nothing more at this stage :o It is a waste, but I only really turn it on when the 360 is on and hence save a small bit of energy instead of leaving it on all the time.

And your right! I did mean my 360 Wireless adapter is from Dec 2005.
My Airport Extreme BS is the new model.
