how likely is it that my mac could get a virus if I run windows on it (rarely to occasionally)?

iv'e installed AVG antivirus... is that enough to protect me? will the osx firewall help any???

As likely as any other Windows box. The OSX firewall will not protect you if you are running the machine exclusively in Windows. If you don't have a firewall in your router I would suggest you turn on the Windows firewall (in the security centre). AVG is good.
