To install windows xp on a external portable HD that runs only on one usb. (no ac adapter) [WD passport in fact]

I have a 160gb MBP (newest one) and a 160gb external hd.

The point is to keep my machine clear of windows as much as possible... lol

Oh by the way, yes i can (using super duper for OS X) boot from the usb external hd. Thx

i've been thinking of doing something similar.
In order to get WinXP to boot up through USB you need to follow this (http://www.ngine.de/index.jsp?pageid=4176) in order to create a copy of Windows that starts up those USB drivers quick enough for bootup.

I've been thinking of installing WinXP onto the passport. however, i have no intensions of installing OS X, and then bootcamp, and then WinXP. Is this possible? I don't have access to a PC laptop with a sata drive to do this, only my macbook.

and just to clarify, once i have WinXP on the external, i no longer need a bootcamp partition in order to boot to the external, correct?
