I remember reading somewhere that DVD Player plays both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray formats.

Yeah, it will, it's one of the new features of "DVD Player"

I have a Blu-Ray player but no access to Leopard though.

I don't see why not. All the devs have to do is program it to work with both. The challenge would be finding a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive that'll work with the Mac.

I haven't heard any stories of it actually working. I've heard that it should, but haven't seen any proof.

With one of the earliest builds I saw that the ability was added,
look through the mac rumors archive of stories,

I saw a story showing that HD/BR prefs had been added, but that it still wouldn't actually play the movies. If someone can confirm that they actually play, then please post here :)
