So is there any way to unlock Terminal? Admin locked it (message comes up saying it's locked) and I don't have privileges. Help would be fantastic.

i.e. You try to launch it and the system prompts you for an administrator password?

Unless you know the administrator password, then no, there isn't.

thanks for the quick replyAre you sure you're the owner of your user directory? If you change the uid of your user you can lose permission to open certain applications.

This can maybe even happen if you change the name of your home directory. I can't confirm this though.

If Admin locked it, they don't want you to use it. It's called security.

that conclusion is correct. my school blocks most of the apps so i was just trying to get to more of them. can i ssh from an unlocked computer and change the privileges like that?

One idea, you could try bringing Terminal with you on a flash drive and place it somewhere. I've never tried this so you try it at your own risk.

Copying terminal.app onto a flashdrive would only copy the application, not the entire BSD Unix subsystem. He would just get the same effect.

Not without an administrator password and by the sounds of it permissions are designated by a server on the network anyway so you would need access to that.

Why not help circumvent security? The school is ridiculous. Up until the end of last year, they even blocked google images.
Plus it's not like I'm doing anything that would be illegal, or inappropriate. They don't even let you change the background.

Mhm I have the same issue with my school as well unfortunately and as someone said I think that it's done off the network etc. However recently I found a way around it, though I don't know if it'll work for you. Simply open your mail program (You don't need to have any form of mail account set up). Compose a new message and then go to the "attatch" button. Attatch terminal to the message and then double click on it within the new e-mail screen. It should ask you whether you would like to open it etc just press open and viola. Although it may seem odd it did work for a short period of time for me until somebody got wind of it and blocked it. Good luck though :) It should also work with any other application as well.

P.S I can't believe you'd have your ability to change your background blocked. That's just plain ridiculous

It's they school's computer, not yours. If you don't like the conditions then don't use the computer: go buy your own Mac.

Yea, I thought about that later. Definitely wouldn't work.

@SouljaBoyTellEm: Is there a specific reason you want access to Terminal? Maybe some functionality that could be given by another program.

If you have ever tried to administer a network you will know exactly why they have reduced permissions.
