Mine shows Priority Overnight as well with a delivery date of 10/26. I wonder what the odds are that it will ship a day sooner? What a nice surpise that would be on Thursday. :)
EDIT: Mine is not for the "up-to-date" program, sorry.

I bet Apple upgraded all of them to Priority Overnite so the actual boxes don't leave their warehouse til that night and arrive on the 26th to prevent people from getting a day early.
I think I can handle not getting it a day early, even though it would be sweet.

I just checked my status and it says:
ships by: DELIVERS ON OCT 26th
Notice how it says "Delivers On" and not delivers by.

well for the actual leopard...u have to order it by the 24th by midnight
and it would be shipped 12:01am on the 25..and then people would get it on the 26th
the only way you could get it on the 25th if you lived near where they are being sent out off
BTW: im in CANADA

Thanks for the thread but I think that we need to bold the up to date part and/or somehow emphasize that this is for 9.95 orders. I feel those that have posted in this thread so far and said they were getting upgraded shipping and such were for regular orders. I think 9.95 in the title might help the most.

It was just an error in the store. Leopard will ship out from warehouses on Thursday, and arrive Friday.

The same box appeared for me. However, it says ships by October 26th, and it says shipping takes 6-10 days or something like that. Does this mean the Up-To-Date-ers are getting it next week? Because for all of the normal Leopard buyers it says Delivers on the 26th while ours just says ships by. Anyone know what is up?

Mine didn't do the cancelled thing - the product is still the original one that I ordered.
I asked Apple why UTD copies have a ship date of 26th and they refused to answer. If people don't get them until next week at the earliest, I suspect that quite a few people who ordered UTD copies will find alternate ways of obtaining it in the meantime...

I ordered my Up-To-Date Mac and I have a feeling they are going to SEND IT out on the 26th and it will take 5days to deliver afterwards. Meaning we won't see it till Nov 2nd.
If we were to get our shipment on the 26th than Apple would need to ship out our CDs by today since they are doing the Up-to-dates via Ground.
grrrrrrr. I shoulda just ordered my MacBook Pro after the 26th. I ordered mine last Friday.

did you guys order the free upgrade copy or are you guys posting in the wrong thread? I read your comments and get excited then realise that you are probably posting in the wrong thread. There is a thread for the full retail copy and this thread meant for the upgrade copy which just requires 9.95 shipping. If you guys did order the upgrade copy then I apologise and am excited.

People please pay attention, this thread is for UP TO DATE purchases for new Mac owners (that purchased a Mac after Oct. 1). Those that paid $9.95 for the upgrade.
This is not for those of you who purchased RETAIL copies of the O/S.
Currently, NO ONE who purchased the upgrade from the Up-to-Date program has had their shipping upgraded to Priority Overnight.
According to Apple's Web site, Up-to-Date discs will ship out via USPS (in the U.S.). Therefore, Apple can't guarantee a certain delivery date, and from the looks of it they are not even going to begin shipping until Oct. 26.
These are the shipping threads for those of you who purchased RETAIL copies.

The versions are a little bit different(the upgrade, uptodate copy requires a previous installation) and we up to daters seem to be getting treated differently from a shipping point of view.

OMG! I thought I was the only one. Mine status says "ships by October 26th" also. Now that I know that it will be shipped by USPS, I don't think it will arrive by Friday.
Now that I think about it, I can understand why they would ship the retail orders to be delivered by Oct 26th. I guess because they paid more than we did, they are more special. :p

Hey guys, I just called Apple (US) and asked since my Up To Date order still shows as "Ships by October 26th"....not "Prepared for Shipment" or whatever.
The Apple Representative said that for Up To Date orders "Ships by October 26th" is really the only message they can put in the system. But he confirmed (three times, I wanted to make sure he understood the question :) ) that Up To Date orders will be delivered ON October 26th.
So yeah. I made him say it three times just to make sure, but he said that we should have it ON October 26th, not next week. Its just a limitation in their order status system for UTD orders.

Really? That's interesting considering the Up-to-Date discs are shipping via USPS. Last time I checked, USPS doesn't offer shipping options that guarantee a specific delivery date except Express Mail. I highly doubt Apple would use such an expensive service.
http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/#hardwareterms
We will get it sooner or later. However, Apple Store Reps. are notorious for being ill-informed about launch (or pre-release) products, and unfortunately they tend to tell customers what they want to hear.
For example, if you chat online with an Apple Store Rep. they will inform you that Up-to-Date discs are full install discs just like the retail discs. However, every single Mac OS X Up-to-Date program has shipped UPGRADE discs. Even Tiger.
All other Mac OS X Up-to-Date programs have also always shipped after the intial pre-order period, arriving within a few days of the new operating system's actual release.
Now, it is possible that Apple change their procedures with Leopard. However, I doubt it.
I would exercise a little restraint, and not get too disappointed if their promises don't come true.

Im in Chester, UK and the order staus for my up-to-date leopard is - "not yet shipped" with "estimated shipping: October 26".
Its quite annoying as Apple in the past have delivered by TNT and it probably won't come on friday which means when they try to deliver on monday/tuesday I won't be in and will have to go to all the way liverpool airport to pick it up.

Same in Australia, except replace USPS with Australia Post obviously.
I managed to get an answer out of Apple about it. They confirmed that retail copies will ship via courier and will be delivered on the 26th. UTD copies will ship via regular post and will arrive AFTER the 26th, ie. next week.

All Retail disc's and UTD discs ARE the same. The only difference is that a UTD package is just the retail DVD in a sleeve with no box. Thats it.
Also, all retail disc's are UPGRADE disc's same as UTD. There is no such thing as a non-upgrade version of leopard because all leopard discs are meant to be installed on Mac hardware which came with a previous version of OS X.

I know you're a newbie, but I've participated in the Jaguar and Panther Up-to-Date programs, and that's simply not true. Apple does manufacture specially marked upgrade discs for the Up-to-Date program that require a a current version of Mac OS X installed before they will proceed.
These discs are NOT sold to the general public, and are only available as drop-ins or through the Up-to-Date program.
I'm sitting here looking at them now. They say UPGRADE.
I also have a friend who purchased a Mac mini and he has a Tiger UPGRADE disc. So at least as current as 10.4 Tiger, these discs DO EXIST.

Well, the ones I have, as far as I can remember, won't perform an "Erase and Install" just "Upgrade" and "Archive and Install." I'm not sure about the Tiger upgrade discs.

I would like some info on this: I have a Macbook with Tiger on it, and a blank external HD. Do I need to install Tiger on the external before I install Leopard on it?
That's the big question. If the Up-to-Date discs are like the previous releases, you will have to install 10.4 Tiger before you will be able to install 10.5 Leopard if you're using it on a blank drive.
The 10.2 and 10.3 Up-to-Date discs allow:
"Archive and Install" and "Upgrade" only if a previous version (in 10.2's case Puma, in 10.3's case Jaguar) of Mac OS X is already installed on the drive.
The 10.2 and 10.3 Up-to-Date discs will not allow:
"Erase and Install" under any circumstances.
"Archive and Install" or "Upgrade" if a previous version of Mac OS X is NOT installed on the drive. It doesn't matter if it was installed when you booted the UTD disc, then you used Disk Utility to partition or erase your drive. The previous version must be installed before proceeding.
These limitations will impact your reinstallation times.
As for 10.4 Tiger UTD discs, I have not used them. However, I do know that they also require a previous version of Mac OS X (Panther) to be installed before proceeding.

Yes I can confirm this, I have the Tiger UTD disk and you cannot use it to install onto a blank drive, you need Panther installed. I know this because my machine that had Tiger installed through the UTD disk had a HD crash and I had to install Panther on it first to restore to Tiger. Annoying!

If FedEx and UPS can do it, I don't understand why USPS can't. I guess it's postage rates.

Does anyone else think that $9.95 is kinda high for snail mail? That's almost USPS Express prices.
Also, if the UTD disc allows you to "archive and install" or "upgrade" and the full retail version allows you to "erase and install","upgrade", or "archive and install", isn't that an advantage to the retail version?

After chatting with a Store rep on the phone. The guy assured me that my UTD disk would be delivered on Oct. 26. This guy left and took a hell of a long time tracking down the answer. He said that they were well into preparing for shipment and would be at my door on 10-26.

How so exactly? The UTD doesn't allow you to do an "Erase and Install", so has 1 less feature than the retail version. That Erase and Install is the only way to install Mac OS X on a blank HD, without it you have to install a previous OS first and then upgrade.

How come i talked to multiple people at apple on the phone and through chat and they said the UTD disks are EXACTLY the same as the retail version disks?
Is this another one of those lies like, "ok, i put through a replacement order for your MBP" and then a week later when I call back they said they didn't have a record of the order in their system???
If i get upgrade discs, i am going to call apple and demand a full retail disc because I was promised that. If i knew i was getting upgrade discs, i would have cancelled my order and gotten the student discount retail for $69 at my university.
BTW, my order status is still "Not yet shipped" and it says "Ships by Oct. 26th"

How come i talked to multiple people at apple on the phone and through chat and they said the UTD disks are EXACTLY the same as the retail version disks?
Well there's two options: a) Either they don't know what they're talking about or: b) They've made a major change in how things have been done since previous releases.
In the past "Up-to-date" disks have only worked when an OS was already present on the computer.
If i get upgrade discs, i am going to call apple and demand a full retail disc because I was promised that.
Good luck with that.

In a sense they are, both the upgrade and retail discs perform full installs of the operating system. It's just the upgrades require Mac OS X already installed.
Apple Store employees are typically misinformed on most pre-release and out of the ordinary product launches. If Apple corporate doesn't specifically state such a limitation, they wouldn't know unless an employee went through the up-to-date process him or herself.
In reality, we are getting a $129 operating system for $9.95 that Apple didn't have to offer us. Whether it has install limitations or not, it's still the full version of the operating system—and we should be happy Apple offers such a program.
It's frustrating (and unnecessary IMO), but in all likelihood we are not going to be reinstalling too many times (maybe a few times a year). Therefore, this issue is somewhat mute, and I personally will be glad to reinstall 10.4 Tiger to save $110.
By the way, you can use Carbon Copy Cloner or Net Restore from Bombich to make a full backup copy of the clean Leopard install, and just use it for restoring. That's what I plan on doing.

Why on Earth would you need to be reinstalling your OS a few times a year? The only time I've ever reinstalled a version of Mac OS X on a computer is when I've encountered a physical hard drive failure.

Mine still showing "Not yet shipped" :(
Although as with others the cancel button is now gone (using Firefox to view page) :)
As for the having to install Tiger first thing, I'll still be using SuperDuper! (once it works) to keep a full bootable copy of my hard disk in case of failure, so that's not going to be any issue whatsoever.

In general, this is not much of a problem for home users. But if you do a lot of video editing, your drive will become fragmented.
In my case, Adobe's CS3 updates tend to brick my CS3 installation. So, instead of fishing through my entire hard drive looking for every single Adobe file, it's easier to reinstall. Adobe in their infinite wisdom decided their poorly written third-party installer should propagate my hard drive with multiple resource and system files instead of keeping everything inside the application and library folders.

Basically because all OSs build up cruft over time, which slows the system down. That time is dependent on how you use your computer. I have a tendency to install and uninstall applications on a regular basis, trying out new software. Most of these leave bits and pieces of themselves behind. As a result my systems (Windows, Linux, and OS X) tend to slow down after about 6 months. My grandmother, on the other hand, wouldn't install a new app if her life depended on it. As a result, she would almost never need a re-install.

This is an issue on Windows, definitely, because programs tend to add themselves liberally to the "startup" list (Quicktime for example), but not on Mac OS X or linux that I've ever noticed.
I'm sorry to say that your computer "slowing down" after 6 months is probably not real. I'd put it in the same category as people who think Safari seems "snappier" after every OS upgrade.

OK, now this is a better reason I guess. Fragmentation of HD is real, even though Macs are supposed to be immune to it, they clearly are not.
I don't use Adobe software as a rule, so I'm immune to their particular form of crappiness.

Hi, just wondering how many UTD orders have been actually charged for it yet. I ordered my one of my UTD copies on the 20th, Apple charged me for it on the 22nd. I am on the East coast. My status still says not yet shipped, but the cancel button (actually ALL except change email addy!!) have been greyed out since Monday afternoon, the 22nd. Possible that they ARE sending them out this week....
Have others been actually charged yet?

I too however am ok with waiting until next week to get it since it barely cost anything! I have TWO new mac's purchased this month that qualify for utd, so I consider myself lucky either way !!! Wow....so four apple customer service reps later:
I've gotten the same answer four different times I've called. The Up-To-Date discs are a FULL RETAIL COPY (I know, I know...I'll believe that when I see it, too :p ) and we should have them in our hands on the 26th.
I don't think anyone there knows anything more than we do haha. But I think we have just as many "Ships on the 26th" answers as we do "Delivers on the 26th"
So who knows. Guess we'll find out on Friday. Or next week. Or....

I'd believe the UTD with a Deleivered by status if someone could paste one.
I have both types of orders (full pre-order and a UTD), and here's what they say:
MAC OS X 10.5 RETAIL-INT
Ships by: DELIVERS ON OCTOBER 26TH
MAC OS X 10.5 UTD FULFILLMENT-INT
Ships by: OCTOBER 26TH
If I were Apple, this is exactly as I would do it. It doesn't make sense from a cost perspective to be sending out $9.95 UTD's by overnight priority shipping.

Hi, my name is XXXXX Welcome to Apple!
Apple Store Rep: Good afternoon
You: Hi XXXXX.
Apple Store Rep: How may I help you today?
You: I qualified for the Leopard Up-to-Date program, and I'm wondering if (like the Tiger Up-to-Date disc), you won't be able to install Leopard on an erased hard drive using the disc?
You: The Tiger Up-to-Date disc required I have Panther installed first before it would let me install Tiger.
Apple Store Rep: Correct.
You: So when I get my Leopard Up-to-Date disc, I will need Tiger installed first?
Apple Store Rep: Correct.
You: And are those discs shipping via FedEx or United States Postal Service?
You: The Up-to-Date discs.
Apple Store Rep: Not sure of the shipping method.
You: OK. Do you know when they will ship out?
Apple Store Rep: They ship out the 26th.
You: Thank you so much. You have a great day.
Apple Store Rep: You're welcome.
Apple Store Rep: Thank you for visiting the Apple Store. *We appreciate your business.
Thank you for contacting the Apple Store. If you require further assistance, please call 1-800-MY-APPLE.

I would imagine it has more to do with the high shipping costs of FedEx Priority Overnight, and the fact they want to send out upgrade discs instead of retail discs. For $9.95, I wouldn't guarantee launch date delivery to my customers either.

For $9.95, what do you expect? The costs of shipping overnight, plus handling by Apple and media costs, etc would exceed $9.95 if they were shipping this priority overnight.
Like it or not, Apple is still a business, and deserves the right to keep costs down whenever possible. Truthfully, you would not suffer irrepairable harm if you get it by October 30th.

I am happy to assist
Okay thanks...I qualified for the Up To Date Program. My question is about the actual disc I will be recieving. When Tiger came out, the UTD discs required that I have Panther installed before they would install Tiger.
Are the UTD discs for Leopard going to require that I have Tiger installed on my Mac?
If you are using the Up To Date program, yes
Okay, so just to clarify....the disc I paid $9.95 for is NOT a full retail copy (e.g. it won't do a clean install of Leopard on an unformatted hard drive?)
No, it will install Leopard on the machine that has tiger on it. the one that qualified for the UTD pricing"
He couldn't answer the shipping question, but he referred me to an Apple Customer Support Rep on the phone who seemed to know what the heck she was talking about. She told me that my UTD order will be delivered on October 26th. I asked her the question three times again, just to make sure...I even used the prices to make sure there was no confusion whatsoever. But she said that my order would be delivered on October 26th.
So yet another answer....this is kind of fun. I think I'm going to turn this into a game with my friends and chart the answers :p

The people here have ordered through the UTD program not retail, there is another thread just like this one for folks who bought retail. You can only get the UTD discs directly from Apple, not Amazon. I would have to say that ordering directly from Apple would get you the fastest delivery...but you might want to ask someone who ordered from Amazon with Tiger and remembers/ I ordered Tiger through Apple so I don't know unfortunately.

It's amazing that Apple doesn't standardize it's support scripts. Every call costs them money, so after a few of you call and get different answers, more call and get more different answers. You'd think they'd figure this out to reduce the number of calls for the exact same question.
When iLife 08 came out, I called Apple because I was just outside of the UTD window. The first guy I spoke to said no, the second guy bargained with me.. first offering me a backpack?!?, then 10% off, then 50% off. When I asked for a supervisor, he came on and said he'd send me the disc for free.. no $9.95.
My friend did the same and went through the same negotiations until getting it for free from the supervisor. We're talking 2 20 minutes calls that both resulted in Apple spending money. I can't believe that that is an efficient business strategy.

FWIW...
I just spoke with an apple rep, before even checking the forums here (not that that really matters), but this guy told me that UTD orders will be received on the 26th . I made him repeat himself after distinguishing between UTD and regular orders, and he still confirmed that UTD orders will be received on the 26th. I'm not saying that he is correct, all I'm saying is that he said that we UTDers will be in receipt of Leopard on the 26th. We'll see.

Hi, my name is XXXXX X. Welcome to Apple!
Hello XXXXX
How may I help you today?
I have a question about the Up to Date program for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
I'm happy to assist with that.
Okay. The Up to Date page was a little confusing to me, so I am looking for a straight answer. Is the UTD disc the exact same thing I would get as if I ordered the $129 Single User Version?
Or is it an "Upgrade" Disc. That is, I have to have Tiger installed already in order for it to run?
That would be correct.
It is just being offered at 9.95 for customers who may have bought a Mac on or after 10/1/07
Okay. So just to clarify, the $9.95 Up To Date disc is the exact same thing as the $129 Single User version. Down to the Manuals, Box, and functionality of the Install DVD?
That is correct.
Thank you XXXXX. Have a great day
You're welcome.
Thank you for visiting the Apple Store. We appreciate your business.

So yeah....it looks like we're getting a lot of answers that say we'll be getting a full retail copy of Leopard. Let's hope thats true :)

Hi, my name is Lori A. Welcome to Apple!
*
Lori A: Hello
*
You: Hi I just ordered the "Up to Date" version of leopard and I was wondering if there was any difference from the full $129 retail version?
*
Lori A: No difference.
*
You: Great! One more question...
*
You: I saw on your site that the regular version of leopard was supposed to be delivered on the 26th of October... Will the "Up to Date" version also be DELIVERD on the 26th? Or will it come later?
*
Lori A: You can log into My Account to find out when you will receive that.
*
Lori A: You will also receive an email with that information.
*
You: Right now, it does not say anything about delivery (I have ordered from Apple before and it usually says when it will be delivered). All it says it that "Ships by: OCTOBER 26TH"
*
Lori A: It should update as that status changes.
*
Lori A: You can also call customer service if you have more questions.

This is my opinion, I was a Human Resource Manager for a major retail co. for 15 years....so take it for what it's worth.
I am not so sure there is going to be a "straight answer" (lack of a better way to put it) until Friday, and that's probably by design. The powers that be are absolutely going to get out all of the retail boxes FIRST, and then if possible get the UTD ones out....in that order. It only makes sense from a business standpoint. I DO believe that the UTD will be shipped out as soon as humanly possible AFTER they see to it that all the retail folks discs are en route. The cut off for the retail boxes is midnight tonight, and all retail versions have been promised delivery by the 26th, after that is fullfilled I suspect the CSR (and WE!) will know a lot more.
As I said, just my humble opinion.

People, people! Unless Apple have made a major change in policy since Tiger, the UTD disk will be:
a) Shipped USPS and not turn up on the release day
b) Shipped as a DVD only, with a few pieces of paper, with no box.
c) Be an upgrade DVD, not a full stand alone version.
Personally I don't believe anything these phone/internet support guys are saying, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. I certainly would love my points a-c to not be true!

well, for one, if you ever need to restore, you first have to install tiger, than you have to upgrade to the Lepoard. So its not very intuitive. Most advanced users like not have have stacked OSes on their system. Giving it a bloated feeling.
If you looked at other poll threads you will see that more than 50% of the users like to do fresh OS installs vs. upgrades, which tend to make the system slower due to left over files from the old OS version.

well, for one, if you ever need to restore, you first have to install tiger, than you have to upgrade to the Lepoard. So its not very intuitive. Most advanced users like not have have stacked OSes on their system. Giving it a bloated feeling.
Even more advanced users know that that "bloating feeling" is purely in the users mind, and that Apple upgrades work perfectly fine.
If you looked at other poll threads you will see that more than 50% of the users like to do fresh OS installs vs. upgrades, which tend to make the system slower due to left over files from the old OS version.
The concept that the system is "slower due to left over files from the old OS version" is completely without merit, and if you really were a "advanced user" who understood how Mac OS X actually worked, you'd know that.
Doing an upgrade and install from a clean Tiger install from the Leopard UTD disk will give you a clean Leopard install.
But yes, the full retail version is better. That's why it costs more I guess!

Does anyone else think that $9.95 is kinda high for snail mail? That's almost USPS Express prices.
Hmmm, excellent point...
Most likely, Apple gets some kind of "bulk discount" from the shipping carrier, so that $9.95 may include the price of express shipping... and will hopefully get here on the 26th.
But yeah, just like everyone else, my status shows "Not yet shipped" and the "Cancel items" text is grayed out. I clicked on it to see if I could actually cancel the order and it won't let me.
So I guess I'll wait until Friday like everyone else... I hope it's not a disappointing weekend....

At least when it does come you have a brand new Mac to run it on. I'd rather that than have it on day one but run it on two-year old kit :)

That makes perfect sense from a business standpoint.

Im losing hope here. I spoke to 3 separate reps on 3 separate days. Each one checked thier "internal" system and said that it looked like my UTD disc was going to ship out for DELIVERY on the 26th.
Each also noted that when it did ship I would get an email notification from Apple. Tomorrow is the 26th.... still says NOT YET SHIPPED.
Bottom line is that this is NOT coming tomorrow or it would at least say Prepared to ship or something. Im pissed becasue I have a free weekend. Nothing like Effing the people that bought a product and expected this.
So to recap....
If you bought a retail copy and paid XXX for it vs Apple already have you money in thier hands with an after Oct1 purchase, you are deemed more important as a customer thus get your discs first?
Seems to me that if they wanted to they could have shipped all leopard products together. They closed the 4th quarter with 904 MILLION DOLLARS IN PROFIT....not revenue.. P R O F I T . This would have hrt the bottom line? GRRRR

I guess it just comes down to Apple trusting FedEx employees more than those in the postal service. If they ship out on Friday it's not the end of the world. Go outside and make the most of it before winter sets in :)

Hmmm, excellent point...
Most likely, Apple gets some kind of "bulk discount" from the shipping carrier, so that $9.95 may include the price of express shipping... and will hopefully get here on the 26th.
Considering the size of Apple as a company, I know they definitely get a bulk discount with shipping costs. If they aren't, somebody at Apple is not doing their job. :p

hey guys.. i just spoke to a customer service rep. she basically said my disk was shipping out "by the 26th" which didn't help me much but when I told her that I needed to know if it was specifically gonna be here tomorrow as I am out of town and needed to coordinate with doorman signing package etc, she went on to check a little further than standard answer and stated that I should be receiving between the 30th and 1st. I don't know if this holds true for all of you. Figured I'd share my convo today.

It's upsetting but it is practically free(although you would think ten bucks for shipping could of ensured us pretty fast shipping at the rates apple pays, they do get a pretty significant discount as do all large shippers) So I'm bummed but not mad or anything.
At least this way they can all be the guinea pigs and check for crazy data losing bugs that show up occassionally with updates(even though we have backups it still sucks to go through that)

Another update because apparently I am obsessed with getting this before the weekend. called Apple and talked to a rep that agai looked at the "internal system" and VERy quickly replied that there is a limitation in the TUD ordering but that my order was preparing for shipment and would be overnighted via FedEX and said I would definately recieve this tomorrow on the 26th.
I guess well wait and see but there is a glimmer of hope for all of us...

There are a lot of people here who seriously need to consider switching to decaffeinated coffee. ;) I am waiting for my UTD as well, but calling Apple every hour to see if their story has changed seems a bit absurd. It makes perfect business sense that Apple would give preferential treatment to customers who paid full price over customers who paid $10. Remember that Apple has 33% margins, possibly more on software. $6.70 does not cover overnight FedEx! Your current OS will still function after Friday at 6PM, so just relax, enjoy the weekend, and expect to get your disc early next week.

Delivery Note:
Most shipments require a signature on delivery. However, we offer an easy way to sign for your package even if you can't be present. Click here for details.
I have always had to sign for everything I have ever ordered from Apple.
As far as the UTD I would assume they want you to sign for even more if they are using the USPS to prevent a lot of "I never got it!" calls. :-)

He said the rep said FedEx ground.....
That is how everything has been shipped to me in the past, but FedEx ground here where I live = "home delivery", which delivers Tuesday- Saturday, and for me on the east coast, normally takes 3-4 business days. So if what he was told is true, I should get it Thursday or Friday. (maybe Wednesday if all the stars line up right! :)
But the way I look at it, is that while I may be disappointed I won't get it tomorrow, I only had to pay 10 bucks for it sooo....
(and I have TWO computers that qualify....so not a bad deal) at least this way I don't have to buy the family pack until after x-mas!!)

Trust me when I say that I understand what you're saying....I purchased TWO computers and various other items from Apple in the last 24 days!!! (way over the $3k mark) but here's the thing, we are able to get UTD discs because we bought computers in the month of Oct.....how long have we known that Leopard was going to be released in Oct!! If we really wanted to make sure, we would have waited! I know for me I couldn't wait in one case, and chose not to in the other! I have to agree with this... last week, all over Apple's site, there were pre-order ads that said "delivered on Oct 26"... and if I recall, the UTD order page didn't make it totally clear... we just assumed we'd be getting the updates in the mail on the 26th.

Obviously you're not an UTD'er and are paying retail... so why are you even bothering to respond to this thread? Sheesh, let us vent and have our bitchfest! :p
You're wrong. If you look in my sig you'll see a Mac Pro in there, I'm getting the UTD for that and haven't ordered a retail Leopard (yet) for my other machines. I'm in the same boat as the rest of you.

I bought the UTD and I am saying give it a rest...
Not the end of the world if I have to wait a few days.
Maybe I can check the forums here and get some helpful hints in the meantime.

Yeah, I'm beginning to lose hope here... I don't think we'll be getting UTD until next week sometime... :(
Needless to say, I'm pretty p-ssed off... They should have at least given us the option for express delivery, I would've paid the extra few bucks for it.
UPDATE: Just called Apple, they said the status is "prepared for shipment" and that means it will go out within 24 hours. Bah!
To help settle this a little...I called Apple this morning, as I had the same problem everyone else here was having. Mine was not yet prepared for shipment (at least it didn't say that online) and my up-to-date cd said it would ship ON October 26th. Since Apple never made a distinction between the ship dates of the UTD and the retail version, I, as did most others, believe it would ARRIVE on the 26th.
After speaking with Apple for a long time on the phone early this morning, she upgraded my shipping to overnight, however, explained that the UTD CDs are mostly being shipped out on October 26th and even overnight shipping wouldn't get it here until Monday. Even though my order still does not indicate that it is prepared for shipment, Apple confirmed that it has been prepared for shipment since 6am.
Why they decided to do this? Who knows. They said that they have been receiving a TON of phone calls about this, however, I had been the first one to call that specific rep about it this morning. She said that she had just gotten in the office for the morning and an e-mail had been sent to the reps that morning detailing this very problem. She took a minute to read the e-mail while I was on the phone. She said that the e-mail confirmed that nearly ALL UTP CDs would be shipping out on October 26th with standard delivery. So for those of you wishing they would have offered upgraded shipping, you still wouldn't have received it until Monday at the earliest.
Hope that helps.

The way I look at it, I'll have a few days of reading all the problems people have with Leopard over the next few days! As bug free Leopard has appeared from reviews so far, there's nothing like a million people installing it to work out the real bugs. Either way, in a week's time I'll have a Leopard machine to play with. A week ain't that long.

Frankly, I am a little disappointed rather than upset. With all the hype for a Oct 26 release, I was hoping for a worldwide launch for Leopard be it retail or UTD disc. It will be a great consumer experience if apple made UTD available the same day as the retail editions. I have nothing to lose, I am paying 10% of the retail price for leopard, but then again apple could do more to make customers happier. Dont just sell them the computers and neglect them!
Note: Order status "Not yet shipped" as of 11:50AM 26 OCT

Exactly, that's the point.... why even bother with 2 different ship dates for UTD and the retail version? Just send them out all at once. Just looks like bad planning on Apple's part.
No, it's not the end of the world, but it still sucks. ;)

I live in Sac, and for this area Leopard is shipping from Sac - Wonder if it ships early enough in the morning if I'll get it later that afternoon...
