Good Mac media player?

Hi, I'm a new Mac user who's trying to figure out a good way to play his South Park DivX files. I've been using QT Player so far, but I hate how it doesn't allow me to play things at full screen. Is there a feature that I'm not aware of, or does someone have a better media player to recommend? Sorry if this has already been posted, I did a search and didn't find much.

Check out MPlayer for the DivX.

But if you wish to go full screen on QT, you need to buy Pro.

Is pro worth getting? All I use QT for is playing videos.

Look up VLC Player on http://www.download.com - it seems to me to be by far and away the best player for DivX files.

Was going to sugest that too.. It plays VCD and SVCD (if you have the MPEG2 codec) very well...

But its only downfall is that it doesnt release ram sometimes and causes the system to crash.. Doesnt happen often, but just a heads up.

check www.versiontracker.com, there are several free full screen quicktime players.

I believe Apple has a free script somewhere that lets you play fullscreen. Don't know why it isn't included automatically with QT player.

I think its definetly worth it. It you use Quicktime pro, you can encode your own Mpeg2s to burn to a DVD, you can encode divx formats, really anything you can do with quicktime. Well almost everything, but you can do a lot with pro. I love it.

+1 re: VLC - great piece of software for playing anything QT/WMP doesn't handle out-of-the-box.

And it may have memory problems, but in a lot of heavy use I've never seen any significant problem caused by VLC.

Personally, I use QT Player when I can (I like it's interface, with controls attached to the player window, better than VLC or MPlayer, and it seeks much more accurately), but when all else fails, VLC almost never does.

Side note: Panther now handles VCDs natively! Copy video or play it with QT Player. Finally!
