Ever since a few days ago, I notice mainly when my MBP is not connected to the internet, that istat will show a process called "DirectoryService" that is taking up a ridiculous amount of CPU power (sometimes up to 190%). It doesn't seem to slow my computer down much, but I can tell it's stressing the processor as it becomes extremely hot when this process is running. When I open terminal it shows this is a root process. Like I said, it only seems to occur when my computer is offline.

Any idea what this is?

Hm, well it is related to networking. You usually have a share mounted when you're connected to a network?

Nope, nothing of the sort.

Looks like I have the same issue as of today. There are a bunch of posts about this over at the apple discussion forum as well.

I would hazard a guess that the culprit is actually 10.5.1.

It's a good thing really that 10.5.2 is supposedly just around the corner.

10.5.2 doesn't fix it.
Difficult to diagnose a problem that one can't reproduce.
