I currently have two iMac's running Leopard, both are for my kids. They are running under standard accounts with Parental controls enabled. I have restricted the normal things such as apps, etc, but I am also looking at restricting the email and ichat usage.
Email seems to be working fine, worked great under Tiger as well. I just recently started to try and get the kids set up on iChat. Mostly so they can chat and video conference with each other. However, I cannot seem to get the Bonjour account to be enabled unless I completely remove parental controls from the account. Then enable it, and re-add parental controls, this is a huge hassle as I have to re-enter all of the email addresses that the kids are allowed to communicate with. Also, if/when one of the kids closes the iChat window on their system using the red close icon on the upper right hand corner of the window then the account becomes disabled.
The same thing happens with jabber based accounts, I have the kids setup on gmail / google talk, but the same basic things happens. In fact, I find that with parental control enabled I cannot even add new jabber/google talk accounts to the preferences setup when I have parental controls enabled.
Anyone else encountered this? Like I said, I can temporarily get things setup but if one of the kids kills the iChat window I am back at square one. I have even tried disabling iChat controls as I have an OpenFire server running on my machine and I could set them up accounts on it, but then I think I would loose the ability for video...
Any thoughts, ideas?
Thanks-
