saving .mov files from Safari cache?

i'm just wondering if you can save movies, .mpeg, .mov etc from Safari's cache. that's how i used to get them from my PC running XP before i got my new PB, but now i don't know how.

i tried looking for the cache folder, but then there's heaps of other folders in there as well, so it's impossible to find anything.:rolleyes:

does anyone know if you can do this in Safari, or could someone let me know of a browser that you can just go to the cache folder?

Most quicktime movies let you just save the movie to disk anyway. Check your quicktime system preferences, you may have the feature disabled, but I've alway been able to save quicktime movies directly from the browser.

I have used Quicktime Pro in the past to save almost any movie I can view in my browser. I also have used Opera 6.1 to dig things out of the cache folder. Opera is available as a free download with an imbedded ad banner a small registration fee removes the ads. It is available for many different languages and platforms. The English Mac version is up to about 7.11 I believe. I haven't used that particular version but cache folders are probably accessible as in other versions. You can download it from http://www.opera.com

have you tried control/clicking for the option to download to disk? i think it might be that easy. give it a shot. and although that may not be it, i'll betcha the correct answer is really just as simple. :D

i've got 'save movies in disk cache' enabled in Sys Prefs.

i'll have a look at Opera... sounds like it might be just the ticket. :D

i would usually save the links to disk... but you can't usually do that, like when the link contains some funky java stuff. :p

here's (http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel/Products/Standard&scid=1047021988040&id=1047021764853) the page i was trying to get the .mov files from. there's three preview movies at the bottom of the page. also, you can't download the movies from apple.com, you need to dig them out of the cache.

anyways, i'll give Opera a shot. :)

No, dude, you can definitely download the ones from Apple. And I can even download the ones from that website you were talking about. Go into System Prefs and see if you have "Enable kiosk mode" checked. If you do, uncheck it.

I don't know, maybe I've been using Pro too long, but I thought this feature was available for all versions of quicktime. Is this just a pro feature?

If it is, I recommend you buy Quicktime, 29.99, well worth it.

and when i said you needed to get the .mov files from Apple.com out of the cache i might have been a bit general. there are alot of movies there after all. :p

here's (http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/quicktour/fcpcompatibility.html) one set of movies that you can't download. or at least i can't. if anyone else can d/l them by just right clicking & 'save as' then do let me know.

Once the movie is fully loaded it gives me the option to save in Safari.

yeah, dude, even the clip that you linked there I'm able to download. Are you waiting until the entire file has downloaded first? try right-clicking/control-clicking to save it.

Hi all.

1st post.

I've got QT Pro 6 and have been culling trailers off Apple's site for sometime now, but was just introduced to Apple.co.jp this a wonderful location for import stuff.

Anyway, none of the trailers allow downloads (after the full load, without kiosk and with QT Pro)

So, back to the original question: is there a way to cull the .mov file out of Safari's cache, or do I have to resort to a PC to do it?

I use SiteSucker (http://www.sitesucker.us/index.html) to either download sites for offline viewing or in your case you can tell it to save only specific file types like movies etc..

Phaser's post worked; the macosxhints suggests that you poke around in the "View Source" to see where the URL points to...

The app SiteSucker wasn't effective -- I think because the file wasn't on the apple.co.jp server...
it was embedded in the apple.com/jp server (Didn't know this one existed...)
