View Full Version : USB Printer connected to a PC on my network, how do i find/use it with my mac?

I have a local printer connected by usb on a pc on my network, and i was wondering how i find and use this with my mac.

I tried useing PC MACLAN on the PC, but it always said i didnt' have admistrative rights to use either of the File/print servers.

I was loged on that comptuer as the admin.

Is ther any other thing i could try to accomplish this?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

According to Apple's Mac OS X website, Panther has this capability. Perhaps that will help? I don't know why PC MACLAN is not working for you (I used to use it before I got Mac OS X v10.2 and my PowerBook G4).

I have no idea how setting up a remote printer on a mac works.. but on windows you go to "add new printer>remote printer>\\pcname\printer name>add" Maybe its some what like that on mac ?? Define the route tell it its remote.. and shazzam it works. :-D Windows, Because it works ;)

And it's really, really easy.

First, download GimpPrint an Open Source set of printer drivers, including old and new ones and also you can use CUPS (Common Unix Printer Services) which should allow you to access the printer services on Windows, then go to Safari (IE, whatever) and enter in 127.0.0.1:631 this will take you to CUPS and allow you to add a printer and make them communicate.
