Often these types buy macs as a fashion statement more than anything else.

Speaking of chefs, I remember Heston Blumenthal having a white iMac in his kitchen on the "In Search of Perfection" programme on the BBC earlier in the year.
And Kylie was using a white Macbook on the Channel 4 "White Diamond" programme a month ago.
In all fairness, if you look hard enough you can see Macs on TV all over the place. It's just that a lot of times they hide the Apple logo on the front!

And Mac Rumors often uses people like you to display their ignorance more than anything else.
You make it sound like Macs couldn't possibly be used for real work by the celebs.

Channel 4 use Macs - especially MacBooks - on all of their programmes, I believe.

You're right, I'm not a fanboy, if that's what you're trying to say. OS X is a superior operating system, but I don't think that's why you average prima donna is using it.

You've got a very good point there. I don't want to be sexist but .... most of the girls I speak to like the idea of having a Macbook cos it looks cool and there's that whole Apple brand association with the iPods.
They haven't got a clue that Macs use a different operating system:
"You mean there's other operating systems out there APART from Windows?"
Then I try and show them my MBP.
Then they ask me where the Start menu is.
Then they ask me how to "maximise" a window.
Then they ask me where the right mouse button has vanished to.
Then they go and buy that cheap Dell laptop they always wanted.
But wait! I say to them. You can install Windows on a Mac if you wish. But by that point it's already too late and they've seen enough.
C'est la vie! :D

The BBC uses Final Cut Studio (and After Effects) to edit a majority of their TV shows.
And the Radio side uses Garageband to create the Radio 1 (and possibly 2) podcasts.

Does Apple go out of its way to put all those macs into movies by the way? Or do movie studios pick macs independently due to their aesthetic advantage?
(well, except Sony Pictures of course, Casino Royale was chock full of vaios and blu-rays)

Yeah, same with "The Riches" as well. Can someone explain what these "legal reasons" are?
Is it the broadcasters that don't want to give free advertising to Apple or is it Apple themselves who don't want their logo on show without permission?

No, I wasn't calling you a fanboy, I was offering a rebuttal to your point that Macs would only be used a decorative piece to the rich and famous.
Don't forget that the Mac OS is the preferred choice for musicians and D.J's and not to mention major motion pictures are made on a Mac. These are situations where the big wigs are only using Macs for work and not for prettiness.
I do get your point that some people buy on prettiness because a lot of the recent switchers are like that and I think that's rather shallow of them and maybe even a bit of stupidity on their part.

Companies get very upset if they see a competitor's logo or product to obviously displayed, whether intentional or not, it's a form of free advertising. There are also strict advertising limits per hour in the UK

Do you remember the Coors incident with eastenders once. There were bottles of coors everywhere one episode and they thought they'd get away with it!
(not that I watched it of course lol)

My girlfriend wants a MacBook after having used mine a lot. When asking why I was hoping she'd say how much better it was than the competition, easy to use etc etc
Her answer? "It's white"

Run DMC's family uses Macs, including his brother Russell Simmons. ;P
I've noticed a lot of commercials have Macs too. All a part of Apple's marketing strategy I'm sure (very smart one I think).

I know in "I Am Legend," Will Smith had a nice shiny Mac Pro with which he did all his research.
All of the computers on the show "Scrubs" are macs with Sacred Heart Hospital logo stickers over the Apple.
I have no way of knowing, but my theory is most of the time, directors and such will just use Macs because movies are made on them, so they know they're better. There may be some kind of legal issue with this when Apple isn't involved if MS gets angry, and so they put the stickers on just to protect themselves?
Hmm.. I, too, noticed that about the Vaios on "Casino Royale." I'm used to everyone I like in movies using Macs, so when I saw James Bond pop out a Vaio I almost fell out of my chair. I'm not sure, because I've only seen it once, but I DO think it was running Linux though.... :D
