Unable to connect using SMB

I've been trying to connect to folder for my school using SMB. Every time I try, I get the spinning beach ball and end up having to relaunch finder. I know that I'm entering the correct address since it works fine when I use one of the iMacs at school. I'm not sure what else to try doing, any help would be appreciated.
