help with the dock

i'm looking for a way to either
1) kill it off completely
2. move it to the top of the screen

i've tried the terminal command

defaults writes com.apple.dock orientation -string top, which apparently worked in older versions of OS X, but not in leopard.

so if someone can point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it.

auto-hide and don't "go there"?

yeah, i've given up trying to get it to the top, so i plopped it on the same side as my adium window, which doesn't have a delay to show up when i mouse to the left side. the dock has a smaller delay so it doesn't show up unless i'm careless.

Glad that'll work for you. I've always run with mine hidden, and found the delay just about right. I use the dock all the time and rarely have it un-hide by accident.
