Norton Anti Virus [Archive] - MacRumors Forums

Hello,

I've been using Mac's since I was young, basically growing up with them. I recently bought a new MacBook Pro, and am wondering wheather or not I need to run Norton AntiVirus on it. I have been using Norton for years, and it's just always something I've installed by default.

The system is so fast, and I'm wondering if installing Norton will slow it down. Even with the auto scan off, does NAV slow the system down? I know I really don't even need it, but I've always used it just to be safe.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you install NAV on your Mac. It's known for causing all sorts of stability/compatibility issues and is completely unnecessary.

If you MUST install AV software (bearing in mind that so far the Mac platform remains largely free of anything but the most dumb-ass trojans), then try ClamXAV, which is open-source, free and only runs on demand.
