Should I get this game? It looks like fun, just wanted your opinions on it.

I recently bought this game ( i don't know, maybe a week or 2 ago) and I can only say good things about it. The graphics are amazing (*note that I'm playing it on a PC with a Nvidia 8500GT*) and the gameplay is phenomenal. I would definitely buy it, but make sure you've got a nice video card.

Also, if you are running Vista there is a virtual memory error that happens when you switch maps in Titan mode online. A quick google search finds a fix (note that you have to change the .exe, but a patch is sure to come along)

Stats for the PC I'm running it on

2.2 Ghz Quad core AMD Phenom 9600
3 Gb Ram
Nvidia 8500GT 256 Mb
output to 47" 1080p TV (full resolution - looks great)
everything set to high with 4 or 8 x AA (no choppiness whatsoever)

It's a great game. I only play it occasionally now, but it has provided me with many fun days of play.

Both PC and Mac version are pretty good. Some people have issues with the Mac version but there's quite a few of us who haven't had any issues (any real major LOL issues) that haven't been fixed to date.

There's even a Mac Clan formed, http://bf2142tracker.com/bf2142_clanprofile.php?clanid=2241

I am x-kat69 on BF2142.

I've heard of many problems with the Mac version.

Hey x-kat, i remember you from the mac 2142 forums. Anyway, I obtained a copy of the PC version, and it definitely does run better. The performance difference isn't as enormous as I thought it would be, but it's nice not to have the occasional "skipping" that I had in the mac version. It didn't happen THAT much... but when it did (skip a few frames) it often got me killed or made me miss a kill.

Also... one problem that ALL mac users have with this game... regardless of performance... is that we don't have the expansion pack, nor is there any mention of us getting the expansion pack : \

It just angers me a lot, to put the effort into porting the game to mac, but NOT porting the expansion pack, which I honestly don't think would take that much more effort.

So anyway Ryox... if you haven't bought it yet, I'd recommend buying the PC version.. and you could probably get it cheaper than the mac version since it's been out longer : \

SUP RED (why do I think of the movie 'Friday' when I say that?)

Yah, we do have that as a BIG problem. I had modded my Mac version to accept the 1.4 with Northern Strike Exp but I have since removed it.

I don't foresee us getting NS support if they are working on the free battlefield game now. I hope we do get it though.

Besides that though, BF2142 is still a good game. I've also read some posts (this is directed to the OP) that the serial number from the Windows Version will allow you to register the Mac version provided you can get a torrent for the Mac version. It's a little sneaky sneaky but I don't see why one would have to pay for both copies if you already gave EA your hard earned money :D

Well of course we wouldn't advocate that you do that, but uh... HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING... wouldn't it be easier to get a torrent of the PC version than the Mac version?

Theoretically this would be true  and theoretically would be easier to find the original CD Box version as well instead of the mandatory download edition (which is extremely difficult to inject the cd key) and the original CD version asks you for the cd key.

But we're speaking Hypothetically here. Stupid me actually has 2 legit purchased copies of the game since I bought the PC version WAY before they mentioned releasing a Mac version.

and btw... the new battlefield looks like it'll be windows only :(

so much for EA's triumphant return to mac... more like a half-assed temporary return.

Do you usually play 2142 under windows or os x now?

Yah, I haven't seen much regarding this being for Mac yet. If it does, it'll probably end up a cider port AGAIN

OSX still. I know I'm missing my NS maps and short of dedicated grinding I won't get any more unlocks for points, I need unique things now mostly with NS than anything. I'm stuck at Brig Gen and 3/4th's my unlocks  I tip toe in every so often to lay down some C4 charges LOL.
