iPhone SDK Accessing iPod Information

I have started to play around with the iPhone SDK a little bit and there was some functionality that I was hoping would be in there, but I am not seeing it. Is there a way to access information such as artist, album, and song for music that is already on the device? I do not need to actually use songs, I just want to have the names of all of the artists and such. Is this possible?

Did you ever get a response to this? I am trying to figure out if there is a way for an app to simply read either the album or artist names on an iPhone/iPod Touch...

So far my research says no, yet it seems like certain apps I've played with have been able to interface with a playlist like Shazaam which allows you to buy and add songs...
